I have already been told to use the Mobil 1 product for the combination of price vs. quality. Any others that you would suggest?

No scientific analysis really exists (or at least it is not presented to the public and is industry insider knowledge) on say how Mobil 1 compares to Pennzoil Synthetic after 200k miles teardown, etc. Rest assured that these differences are probably close to negligible. Just keep the oil level proper and remember to change your oil according to your cars manual.

Otherwise, pick whatever 0w20 you'd like. Just remember that it's all just marketing. For what it is worth in 0w20 flavor I've used Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum, Kendall GT-1 and Castrol Edge. I typically buy whatever is on rollback/cheapest at Walmart when I walk in. None of these oils are "noisier" than another or get better gas mileage. All I know is that my engine has 75,000 miles on it and runs great with 7,000-10,000 mile oil change intervals. I've come full circle as a BITOGer at first thinking oil was oil, then thinking X brand was better than Y and then realizing my original intuition was correct.

You might consider the Quaker State Ultimate Durability 0w20 that was tested by PQIA ....Its generally a few dollars cheaper (at WalMart), and many times can be purchased with a good rebate ($7 to $10).

I recently switched to Quaker State Ultimate Durability 0w20...from Mobil 1 0w20, and am completely satisfied. My engine runs smoother and quieter than with the M-1.

I'm going to be the dark horse and oddball but suggest Mag1. It's cheap and tests extremely well. It's also Dexos approved. Been using Mag1 products for years at my company...everything from syns, trans oil, ps fluid ect ect. Never failed me.

The new car is a 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage 5 speed with a 1.2L 3 cylinder engine. These call for 0W20 from the factory.

It is a neato little car and my girlfriend bought it brand new so we want to keep it in good shape. We drove it all over creation and filled it up for $10 yesterday.

The suggested change interval is like 7500 miles but I plan to push no farther than 5000. I plan to do a 3000 mile change on the first one because of break in. It is already getting up there near 1000 miles so wanted to have something picked out soon. I think the Mobil 1 Extended Performance is the way I will go as it is cheap at Wal-Mart. I agree on FRAM. I won't go there unless it is one of the upgraded models.

Yes, the small sump is definitely something to keep an eye on. It only calls for 3.1 quarts with the filter. I am a fan of the 3 cylinder Geo Metros and they only call for 3.5 quarts or so. If you have a non AC model you can put a larger filter on and get them right up to 4.0 quarts. I don't know if you can do that on one of these but suspect not. I run the Mobil 1 0W40 European in the Geos. I understand this is basically a thick 5W30 so would be too thick for this purpose.

IMO....Mobil 1 Extended Performance is OVERKILL.....especially with 5000 OCI's.

A syn-blend (Motorcraft or Pennzoil Gold) 5w20....would be perfect with a 5K OC. Spending more $$$, than you need to does not make any sense. Your vehicle will not know the difference and go 200K if maintained properly.

And yes....Motorcraft comes in 0w20 at the Ford dealerships....but you can use 5w20 which are interchangeable with 0w20.

I saw the Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20 for $23 for a 5 quart jug at Wal-Mart. This doesn't seem like a lot to spend on good oil. Many of the conventional oils are only like $3 cheaper. Am I missing something?

Someone else is also saying that the Pennzoil Platinum is the cheapest "true" synthetic oil and that this is a good option. I am probably overthinking it on this little car as non of these are probably bad options.

1) M1
2) Castrol
3) Amsoil
4) Valvoline
5) Pennzoil
6) Mobil Super Synthetic
7) Royal Purple
8) Kendall
9) Toyota
10) Enos
These are not rated from best to worst. I just thought I would state 10 of the best name brands out there.

What is the difference between Mobil 1 "Extended Protection" 0W20 and Mobil 1 "Advanced Fuel Economy" 0W20? These are the same price and weight but have a different designation. What does this mean?

The Mobil 1 Extended Performance is guaranteed for up to 15,000 miles. The Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy is guaranteed up to 10k. They are pretty much the same oil, with the EP version having slightly more PAO content. Many people have taken AFE to 15k and beyond on this board with their used oil analysis coming back great.
The AFE is also designed to try and increase gas mileage by 1-2%.. That is M1's claim at least.
If u can't decide go to the Mobil 1 site and use their suggested application tool. For my tundra Mobil 1 site recommends either Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0W-20, Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0W-20, or the Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w30.

It looks like the EP is a better oil in terms of protection and stability so will go with that. I guess it costs a bit more in many places. Since it is the same price at Wal-Mart, the choice is simple.

Where did you find this test? I've been unable to locate it.

We have had members here that stretched their OCI out 15-20K with Mobil 1 0w20 Advanced Fuel Economy.
