If the only alternative (besides cloth) is leather that will degrade quickly, I'd much rather have a synthetic material like MB-Tex. If it holds its look and feel for 20 years, I'd be all over it. I don't like cloth (especially velour) because of the way it pulls at your clothes. So I've come to buy leather now...but would rather have the low maintenance of a synthetic material. I don't care if it really comes from a cow or not. I wish more manufacturers would offer a leather-like material that could be cheaper to manufacturer and less maintenance-intensive to own.

I just finished installing a breathalyzer on a 1981 Mercedes Benz 300SD. 249,928 mi. It had vinyl seats. It's a MUCH better grade vinyl than you would get in a Civic or a Datsun B210 from that era. Heavy gauge yet soft and pliable. The driver was not someone who appeared to care for his car. It was full of ashes, dirt and grass. Who knows when the last time that car saw a vacuum cleaner? There were a couple of cigarette burns in the vinyl but no cracks or tears. Based on that, I have faith that the MB-Tex will perform well with minimal maintenance.

I want to take the car away from him. Give it a good cleaning and a good home.

Court mandated breathalyzer? I thought that was only science fiction.

You should take the car and the license way from him.

Off topic but it is court mandated.

Take the car and license away and you take away their livelihood and ability to pay thier taxes and contribute to society. Or they just get another car and drive drunk in that.
