In all honesty, the best oil on the market is probably the cleanest and most maintained oil/oci`s.

I think it is the best for me. So in my mind it is. For someone else Mobil 1 is, Or Royal Purple is. To each their own.

With that said it is the only oil I run because I like the total package. The company and they way they conduct their business and treat their dealers/customers. Of course the wide selection of products that I can buy at dealer cost helps too.

The only time I run something else is when I have ran out of a product, or they don’t make a product for an application.

I'm not familiar with (Mobil 1)...who makes it????

New kind of oil that you can run for 15,000 miles or more and costs the same as PP,so it's the best oil you can buy!

Joking of course, since it's very hard to take this site serious anymore.

I think it's grade specific.

Mobil 1 0w40 is probably one of, if not THE best 0w40 grade.

Delvac 1 5w40 is probably one of, if not THE best 5w40 grade.

AMSOIL's SSO 0w30 is probably one of, if not THE best 0w30 grade.

Royal Purple makes fantastic ATF that works extremely well as Ford PS fluid.

RLI 5w40 seems to excel where there is substantial fuel dilution.

Redline seems to excel where there is excessive heat.

PP seems to be a great all-around oil at a very good price. They may have the "best value" 5w30.

God forbid you have your own opinion.

OH NO. The Amsoil God's are going to strike me down and BITOG'ers everywhere will burn me in ephagy(sp?). I have sinned. For shame on me.

I suppose some of you saw my sorting and averaging of a bunch of Subaru used oil analysis. In this case and with these samples Redline and Royal Purple had slightly less iron wear than Amsoil on average.

I am splitting hairs a bit since all three performed very well.

https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/subaru-uoa-spreadsheet.97467/

Overall averages by brand

Redline 0.8 ppm iron/1000 (6 samples)

Royal Purple 1.1 ppm iron/1000 (11 samples)

Amsoil 1.3 ppm iron/1000 (24 samples various grades)

Castrol 1.6 ppm iron/1000 (15 samples various grades)

Mobil 1 2.1 ppm iron/1000 (40 samples various grades)

All of the iron wear got me not wanting to use Mobil 1. After switching to a few different brands I immediately noticed how sluggish Mobil 1 was making my car run. My car was incredibly more responsive with even a conventional 20w50 over the Mobil 1 15W50. Ran smoother as well. So far it`s a toss-up between RP 20W50 and VR1 20W50. The improved engine performance is a night/day difference.

On a slightly different note............what makes a racing oil different, chemically, than a regular pcmo? Compare and contrast Valvoline Premium Conventional 20W50 to Valvoline VR1 20W50.

More Anti-wear adds, less detergents, Group IV/V base stocks.
To my understanding:)

Run RP in your grocery getter. Maybe even the thicker RP in a higher performance engine. One thing you will not find with Amsoil is the absolutely terrible used oil analysis in ultra high performance motors that RP has shown. I would run water in my GN before I ran RP in it.

From Al Amatuzio fwiw:

Quote:
...The quality of our products is what sets us apart from all other lubricant manufacturers. In terms of marketing budgets, we simply can't compete with the Mobils and the Castrols of the world, so we have to let our products do our talking. We survive on quality, and the base oil and additive suppliers who work with us are fully aware of that. They don't come to us with the types of ingredients that other companies formulate with. The word average is not in our vocabulary. While others set their prices and then formulate accordinglly, we formulate accordingly and then set our prices. At Amsoil quality will always come first.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. I have run RP in plenty of high powered muscle cars( 383/440/426 MOPARS, 455 Olds, and 396/454 Chevy )and drag/bracket racing cars( mostly small block MOPAR, GM's, and Ford's - couple big blocks ) and never had any issues. I even know people who ran RP in the GN's and never had problems.

Good luck with the that water in your engine.

when I decided that mineral oil was a waste of my time I bought a case of Royal Purple to put in my 1967 Mustang GT with a 428 CJ and the minute I cranked up the car, I had to re adjust the idle to a lower rpm. I noticed the improved throttle response and I knew mineral oil was eating away at my wallet every minute it was in my drivetrain.
I dont think Royal purple is a bad choice it just cost me more to buy that what I buy now.
I have a few freinds that have GN buicks that would love to race BuickGN all day long, too bad your too far away

Most would probably beat me lol. It's gone 10.60 before but it was never dyno'd. Now I've dyno'd it with the new combo but never run it at the track. Got it down to 3,100lbs though so it should run pretty good.
