Any one heard of this company or tried their oil?

Sold on ebay huh? With shipping a 5 gallon pail works out to 8 bux/quart. I may try it. At least they plainly state it's 100% PAO. That's more than we seem to be getting from most these days

This is on the very top of that link: "DSI Platinum Performance Synthetic Engine Oil is one of the few in the world made with 100% PAO synthetic base oils."

And this is right below it: "Our exclusive ester additive formulations clean your engine as you drive it."

That pour point does not look that good for a primarily PAO based oil. Hmm, its not that expensive considering...to bad they don't sell single quarts so a VOA could be performed.

Hi JavaMan,

I know the founder/owner of the company and consider him a reputable guy, although I have not seen him in many years. I use to call on him some 20 years ago when he worked in synthetic electrical fluid formulation for a large equipment manufacturer. He took a keen interest in synthetics, but naturally I cannot judge his motor oil formulations without knowing the formula.

I suggest you ask him straight out if his oils contain any Group III or other mineral cuts other tha carrier oil. I think he will give you a straight answer.

Tom, he's not addressing an issue I suspect a lot of folks might be concerned with. API/ILSAC ratings?

No mention, I assume he's not submitted his product?

Hi Toocrazy,

It's a small company. If these are his own formulations intended to improve on API certified oils, then he certainly would not be able to afford the engine testing. But then neither does Amsoil and Redline on many of their oils.

I don't see how this is any better of a deal than Amsoil or Redline?

Not sure it is unless it's a better oil. "Better" in the sense some engines may like it. It also offers another choice. The website plainly states it contains no mineral oil but yeah, I'd get some more info too before I bought into 5 gallons.

Given that, probably not the best idea to chase this stuff (or any non-API/ILSAC approved oil) if you're under warranty. Don't know how they'd know, but from a sensible-perspective, not to mention simplicity's sake..

Do they even want their oil used in daily drivers? They list a lot of standards that don't appear to be anything but heavy duty stuff. And they say formulated to meet... Does that mean that it hasn't really been tested and that the user should trust them?
