Any experience with SKP or TYC alternators?

Son is on a budget. Alternator went out in his Saturn Aura with 3.6L engine. I pulled the alternator and took it to local rebuilder who said that parts are on back order. So his budget options are either $120 SKP (new, 12 month warranty), $140 TYC (new, lifetime warranty), $130 AC Delco Gold (reman closeout with 30 day warranty) or $45 from U-pull-it salvage yard.

The one that just failed is a Denso from a salvage yard that I installed less than 6 months ago so I'm not too inclined to go through the salvage effort again.

Any experience with SKP or TYC?

Edit: I can change the alternator in about an hour from the top side without too much hassle.

Just remembered that there is another rebuilder not to far from me that I've never used. I'm going to stop in and see if he can get parts. Maybe he has a different supplier.

The skp and tyc alternators are likely the same Chinese parts.

The local rebuilder seems the most promising of the bunch.

Understand the budget concerns, but the new GM Genuine (Denso) might be worthwhile if the local rebuilder can’t come through.

yup.. I had a TYC alternator (new) in my 96 Civic for 11.5 years until it was (civic) totaled in an accident last year. Never an issue with the TYC, voltage was exact and it did charge the battery faster than stock. There was a test printout included with the alternator showing it charged more amps at lower rpms. Never had a battery go undercharged in the Civic, plus I did test it with my battery tester which showed it was being charged very well.

To be fair my TYC was made in Taiwan and now they're made in China, but regardless of that, I've had very good experiences with TYC and I'd recommend your son get that one. The lifetime warranty is real, I had to get a new TYC blower fan (my fault, got water into the hvac air intake and it rusted the motor's shaft) and it was painless.

I installed a brand new TYC starter for a 2008 Corolla. Used it for a couple years no issue before selling the car.

Just installed a new TYC alternator in the wife's 2015 Jeep Wrangler with 190,000 miles. The alternator had Made in Japan printed on it. Quite a good deal for $130 on Rock Auto with no core required.
