Another which gas station do you pick?

I refuse to go to privately gas stations. If the pumps are rusty and leaking or the concrete looks heavily stained, no way. Who knows how they take care of their tanks or pumps.

Corporate owned gas stations are my choice. I have a few reliable places near me.

I vary between Irving and EXxon. If I periodically get a tank of phased separated swill, I have to change my rotation. Lately I got junk from the Irving and the EXxon. A new owner (NORIA) took over a Shell near me so I went there. Seems O.K for now.

If I get swill now, I will add a couple oz. of that ocean blue dyed Marine Stable 360.
I am pretending that it helps. Seems to, LOL.

I Did notice prices climbing above three bucks a gallon here in New England, I would bet it will only go higher with the "War" in the middle east.

They shot up here...glad I filled up on Sunday.

Where I live, we have lots of Chevron stations. They are always 50-75 cents higher than everyone else. They are always plenty busy. I use one that accepts VONS/Albertsons rewards points. Since I normally shop at VONS, I can get up to $1 off per gallon. The result is quality gasoline at a reasonable price.

Chevron has PEA / Techron but I am not sure what 76 uses despite being top tier. I would imagine it is still good like Costco. At 10-20c difference I may pick Chevron but that big of a price difference I'd pick 76 any day. That's a pretty good price I would imagine very close to Costco in your area?

On a trip, naturally anything top tier. Been driving to Dallas from Denver about 4 times a year. Visit QT's or Allsups/Toot n Totum's that sell Valero gas along the way...... usually newer stations that meet wife's bathroom standards! Sometimes I'll suck it up for a Buckee's stop in Amarillo just for the heck of it. At home I have a Costco and a Shell within a mile of my home. With our grocery store discount, the Shell station comes within a few cents of Costco so it ends up being whichever one I'm closest to at the time.

The large majority of gas stations are franchised. I’ve seen a lot of movement over the years. Some big names where the franchisee is still using old pumps. Some stations that went brand name to brand name. Even one that was Chevron to indie and back to Chevron.

Same intersection, same side of the road.. pics taken this morning.

Chevron claims to be the best gas available here but is it worth buying over the 76? Both allegedly top tier. Both E10.

Near my work there's an intersection with a Chevron, 76, Shell & Arco on the 4 corners. The Chevron & Shell seem to compete for who is more ridiculous in pricing while the Arco usually beats the 76 by a couple cents.

Near my house, Chevron is nearly always cheaper than the local Shell & Mobil and within a couple cents either way from the Sinclair and Marathon stations. There's a 76 across the street from this Chevron station as well but their prices are always exactly the same. They move up/down together & usually within a few minutes of one another (I've been fueling up while prices have been adjusted at both stations).

Observations from the happy side of the brain.

1) In my area, I have few TT choices. Quik Trip, Conoco, Shell and Phillips 66 are my Top Tier choices. For the truck if I don't have FRN cents off, it usually gets the cheapest Top Tier.

2) If BP is competitive it goes in my truck for 87 octane needs. It is my go to for the Motorcycle in 93 octane. Compared to the C/P 93 octane premium, it has no nasty ethanol smell.

3) The Quik Trip is a C/P distributed product here in the KC metro. It and the Shell here are only 91 octane. BMW recommends 93 octane.

What ever is most convenient... being I have weeks where I'm fueling up 3-4x I go for that. I do my best to avoid Sunoco though. For whatever reason I get noticable timing retard in all my vehicles burning it. (Logged both driving and on dynos...) Never understood that one as their race fuel is excellent and you can get it at a couple pumps still...

Yes, there's a BP by me thats franchised, pretty crappy. My local supermarket has a station, I use that and Costco.
