If they (and API) were prepared to relax the SAPS levels a bit, ZDDP is a great oil anti-oxidant as well as it's anti-wear properties. One of the reasons I go for a Euro ACEA oil with ~ 1000ppm Zinc over an ILSAC oil with ~ 800 ppm Zn. This and the ACEA shear stability test. Some how all those Euro cars manage to keep their cats alive at this zinc level.

Having said that, I'm not doing extended drains, so I'm probably being a little over cautious.

But yeah, all the big name companiies make good oil, all with their own balance point and focus.

I also go with pretty short OCIs, believe that Subaru is now recommending 6kmile changes for my engine and I am doing 5kmiles. I'd have to look it up to be sure, but IIRC Subaru said 7.5kmiles for my model year and then dropped it to 6k the next year.
Tests are also showing that ZDDP is effective at preventing LSPI in engines like mine, and I think even Infineum hinted that auto and oil makers are looking hard at using a bit more of it in future formulations for that reason. I actually bought a little bottle of Rislone ZDDP additive and have been adding a small amount at my changes, the curve of LSPI events vs. ZDDP concentration was pretty steep in the area of the GF-5 phosphorus limit and I liked the idea of riding down that arc a bit! I will stop doing that once I can get dexos1 Gen2 or GF6 oils that have passed LSPI testing.

I have been pretty happy with various flavors of M1 5W30, but have always been concerned about UOAs for them that show evidence of shearing (excepting ESP). I suppose I should do one of my own once I actually settle on one oil to use consistently...
