Another Delete Shop Gets Nailed

Ha! I know a few people who work for Southern Diesel and have bought trucks from there.

It's pretty crappy that they get in big trouble for making the trucks more reliable and get better fuel economy.

Unfortunately, they do cater to the type of person who puts their truck on a diet so it's reliable ... they cater to the type of person who lifts only the front and puts a smoke tune on.

I think it is absolutely awful how terrible these modern emissions nightmare diesels are. They simply do not work and are not viable.

They do work... But they need to used like a diesel should. If you're just putting around to the grocery store 360 days a year, you're probably going to have issues eventually.

If you own the vehicle, why can't I modify it how I want?
You can. You just can’t have it registered to drive on public roads. If you want to take it off-roading, to the track, or on your own private property, then I’m sure there won’t be a problem. There are plenty of vehicles in the US which cannot pass safety or emissions - they just aren’t allowed on public roads.

Hopefully my BMW's diesel emissions systems will be reliable, since I drive it on the highway 90 miles/day, 5 days/week. I wish delete jobs weren't illegal.

These coal rolling modders give a technically superior combustion system a bad name, and invite further regulation which translates to more gizmos to break, or emissions checks in counties that currently don't have them.

If you don't like how Ford/ Chevy/ Ram builds a stock diesel truck, leave it in the showroom.

I'm a fan of once you buy and own it, do as you please if not hurting someone.

And I'm not a fan of the "coal rolling" group either. Some of them get carried away and are really obnoxious.
By violating the clean air act, you are, in fact, hurting someone, according to Federal Law.

I am fascinated by all the people who think that modern diesels don’t work well. Those who actually own the new Duramax, or a new Ford, marvel at how powerful, and clean, those engines are. If they are run hard, they’re fine.

The idea that deleting all of the emissions equipment somehow makes them run better, is also a myth. Sure, you can tune for more power, which is generally just cranking up the boost and increasing fuel delivery, but they run with an impressive amount of power, as well as impressive fuel economy, as built by the factory.

Now, if you buy a big truck like that to putt around town, well, you’re using it for a purpose other than the one for which it was designed, and you’re asking for trouble

I say it sounds like they are getting off easy. The article says they face a sentencing that could be 5 years prison/$250k fine. From what I have seen of some of the other diesel mod shops that have been caught, this is on the low end.
