Angela Lansbury passes away

I have a story about her.

Back in the late 70’s early 80’s my parents were retired and had a little money for travel. They went to Russian and Egypt and a couple of other places. My mother’s sister [my Aunt June] was what they now call “special” of diminished mental capacity and had functional age of about 8. Proud to say that she worked for the local school board cleaning classrooms at night and earned her way through life.

After taking a few trips my parents thought that she had every right to see more of the world and decided to take her on a trip to London. The flight was dreadfully long and with the time zone difference they were landing late afternoon a Heathrow. They had purchased a theatre tour of London’s theatre district and had tickets to a show the evening they landed.

They spoke to June, during the flight, and suggested she would be too tired to attend the show and might want to stay in the hotel the first night. Of course she was too excited on the plane to sleep and insisted on going to the show. They had good seats in the center of the theatre about 3 rows from the front.

Angela Lansbury is the star of the show and my Aunt June is have a little trouble staying awake. You can see where this is going. About 30 minutes into the show the lights dim, Angela takes center stage for a monologue and the lights focus on only her. The place is dead quiet until…

My Aunt’s head falls backwards and she lets out a snort, some guttural sounds and a full on loud inhaling snore. Angela looks down, as my parents squeeze and try to scoooch themselves away from her to no avail. Having to prod her to wake her up she is startled and says WHAT? The rest is history.
