Guy complains about his engine, yet has hardly ever changed the oil. Doubt it's had more than 3 oil changes in those 42k miles with all that varnish. That's what you get with 10-15K oil changes. Like the old ad said, pay a little now with frequent oil changes or pay a lot more later due to increased engine wear.
Cost of manufacturing is a priority over ease of service, a customer expense. If you can put it all together on the assembly line and install it in the vehicle engine bay, why worry about servicing costs after it is sold and you have made your money as the manufacturer? And more future earnings for the dealership service center too...an added bonus.
Recalling my Ford Taurus SHO. Yamaha engine, six-cylinder multi-valve. Great car. Regarded it as a BMW chaser at the time. After about nine years the water pump gasket failed. To replace the gasket/water pump required the engine to be pulled. Big $$$ to repair. Ended up donating it. Simply not worth it. A sad day!

Is that Pablo Picasso's car?
What engine is that in the video?
I know the buck stops with GM as they must have approved the design, but did I hear right that the Atlas family of engines were from Isuzu?2.9L Atlas 4 cylinder, GM also had 5 & 6 cylinder versions......Not my favorite family of engines to work on.
The I6 never seemed that bad but my experience was short lived.2.9L Atlas 4 cylinder, GM also had 5 & 6 cylinder versions......Not my favorite family of engines to work on.
