And people complain about complexity of euro cars.

That’s nothing compared to working on this.

Guy complains about his engine, yet has hardly ever changed the oil. Doubt it's had more than 3 oil changes in those 42k miles with all that varnish. That's what you get with 10-15K oil changes. Like the old ad said, pay a little now with frequent oil changes or pay a lot more later due to increased engine wear.

Cost of manufacturing is a priority over ease of service, a customer expense. If you can put it all together on the assembly line and install it in the vehicle engine bay, why worry about servicing costs after it is sold and you have made your money as the manufacturer? And more future earnings for the dealership service center too...an added bonus.

Recalling my Ford Taurus SHO. Yamaha engine, six-cylinder multi-valve. Great car. Regarded it as a BMW chaser at the time. After about nine years the water pump gasket failed. To replace the gasket/water pump required the engine to be pulled. Big $$$ to repair. Ended up donating it. Simply not worth it. A sad day!

Pretty sure the oil life monitor on that one will request an oil change at 7,500 miles MAX. That's using a Dexos oil, and who knows if that's what was used.

Which gasket was it? The water pump on the SHO only pays 3.5 hours... they're not hard at all to do and definitely don't require the engine to come out.

It's not his engine
