Fel pro gaskets

I see some people have negative experiences like this and on the other hand some people have great experiences so I don’t know whether they’re a reputable brand or not. Was yours made in China, most of mine were US or Japan
Not a clue, it was a few years back now. Never bothered to look. Just like many, assumed the name would be good...just wasn't for that application.

Hit or miss. I’ve noticed some Fel-Pro for Japanese applications is made in Japan or Taiwan. I have a FP valve cover gasket in my car, it’s over 2 years in, no problems. I’ve resealed a Ford Vulcan V6 with their valve cover and intake plenum set - so far, so good.

50 years ago Fel-Pro were the gold standard and in some cases were better than OE eg Buick nail head head and old big block gaskets, the Fel-Pro blue was much better than the steel shim gaskets. This is not the same company as it was years ago. It was bought by Federal Mogul who was bought out by Tenneco who was then taken over by Apollo global management, everything they touched turned to instant crap. They own these brands and likely more, they are all mostly cheap crap made to a bottom tier price point with a high retail price and fancy boxes..

German made Elring is still good but they also make a lot of junk in china and Vietnam, until you have it in your hands you may not know, ditto Victor and others. Today I buy OE or specialty makers eg Cometic for certain head gaskets and diff gaskets.
I posted about who was under the private equity Driv brand, in another thread..Thanks for adding to the list.. it's good to know who's together in this junk group of parts.

I'm gonna take a Sharpie and scribble it on my shop wall. Not joking. I simply can't remember all the names under this feces conglomerate, and many of them I used to trust, like Moog and Fel-Pro as I said in the other thread where you spoke of the Apollo buyout

I thought it was Carl Icahn who took over the aftermarket side of Federal-Mogul(Driv) and Pep Boys.

Most of the ones I get are made in Japan or USA. My valve cover kit was mostly Japan and usa but there were some small grommets that were made in China

OEM and all the rest, I have had all of them leak at rare occasions. And that was years before all the is it made in some other country stuff.

I used to think Fel Pro was the only thing to get beyond OEM, but the last 3-4 years I bought a few Victor Reinz and Mahle / Clevite gaskets. Not only were they slightly cheaper vs Fel Pro, they seemed higher quality.

I think that's awesome to put on the garage wall. What not to buy! When I put up that original list of what was owned by this private group, I don't remember beck/arnley being part of it. Now the list grows to even more brands to stay away from. I agree what you're saying that moog and fel-pro being good and could trust them. That's what happens with corporate greed, want more money for themselves and who cares about the customer.

I used Fel-Pro cork gasket on my Yaris U340E transmission during the recent pan drop a few months ago when cleaning up the magnets and replacing the filter before flushing in HPL ATF Green. So far so good and no leaks for the past 5000 miles, which the pan bolts were torqued to OEM specs. Its far too early to rate its longevity but we'll see until it does starts to give me problems, hopefully not.

It's what Eddie did with Sears: limp it along as long as possible for absolute maximum profit. Forget about longevity or your reputation and just make maximum cash. Then when it can no longer be kept alive, sell off whatever's left and GO PARTY!!

Oh ya that slow death as he milked out all the money.. was sad to watch. But hey greed always goes before a fall. And be sure your sin will find you out, it's going to come back around. It always does. The good part, I know I've said it as have you. This time we know who not to give our money to, that's the silver lining here!

Mahle is an oem supplier and usually made in Japan and USA so they’re great. I’ve used them before, feels just like oem

On today’s episode of Fail-Pro:

01-05 Civic Valve Cover bolt grommets; these came in the VS50606R kit:

Fail-pro on the left, Stone (Japanese aftermarket) on the right. Fail-Pro was clearly undersized and caused oil to seep from the bolt holes.

I have used Fel pro for 40+ years without a problem. I think a lot of the complaints are from people using a new gasket on a plastic valve cover or oil pan. The plastic warps and nothing is going to seal that.

Fel-Pro is the only aftermarket brand I use. Never had a problem in 6 years of professional wrenching. This is the only place I’ve seen complaints of them. I done my valve cover gaskets with them about 5 years ago on my daily driver and still holding fine to this day. I’ll trust them till I have an issue. At work we tell them if we have to get aftermarket gaskets it’s Fel-Pro or nothing. I certainly respect other member’s experiences but they don’t line up with mine most of the time and I work on cars everyday some of them don’t.
