I know we have several great reps from Amsoil but I wonder if Amsoil as a company would consider joining us at BITOG? I think that if one of their tech people within the company would participate in some threads this site would be jammed. It's possible that his efforts would be the kind of marketing members here would understand and listen to. The flamers would find that inappropriate comments would be quickly put aside. Amsoil is one product line that I think would become of more interest to people given an inside line for info. We could hear something more useful to us than a statement like it's the best. Some effort on their part would product good results and would not be a waste of time and money for the Amsoil bean counters. I know of several friends that have switched to Amsoil because of the steady no nonsense comments of our reps like Pablo, on subjects concerning engine oil. Since Amsoil plays to those willing to spend more for a better quality product this could become a great relationship. What do you think?

I tell you, this probably won't happen. Those guys are very busy. I mean, to put it in perspective - Mobil, Castrol, Valvoline, etc probably wouldn't - as a company "join" or assign a guy to BiTOG. Would be kinda cool - but they certainly wouldn't divulge any juicy bits on purpose

Yeah it's highly unlikely. Amsoil has improved greatly IMO. (although I'm disappointed the s2k PDS is so outdated and has been wrong for over 2 years.)

Tony said they know that the big guys watch this board. It's obvious they do. I've asked them and they all said they know about the site.

Reality is, as much as this site has grown and educated many on oil, we are still a small, strange bunch.

Anytime we have someone with "expert" status on the forum, the threads tend to get out of hand. Everything from too many questions to nit-picky 2nd guessing and jerk-type comments.

Bobinski(GM engineer) & Tom in NJ come to mind as experts in threads that spiral out of control.

It would have to be like a Q&A session actively moderated by the Admin's and maybe limited to submitting questions and the "expert" can provide responses at his/her own pace.

Sure, love to have a technical type from Amsoil, or Shell, Chevron, or ILSAC/API or a tribologist to talk about their field or specialty.

Keep in mind that the topics have to be general, as no one is going to get into a subject where proprietary info is disclosed.

What Blue99 describes is much like an online professional seminar/panel discussion and would be invaluable. I would be very interested to see the comments of any tribologist or other inside-technical expert from Amsoil, or from any other company for that matter, with or without proprietary information.

In an ideal world, advertising would coincide with simple information-giving. Alas....

I will add this: When Molakule comes back, we will have him, Terry, bruce, TeeDub, TimVipond, and a few others that either work in this industry or have. All very sharp with all of the technical aspects.

Maybe we could have a special section on here just for them. Say during the week whoever wants post question in that section, then one of these guys on a rotating basis chimes in to answer the questions. This could not be like every other forum here, where it gets so for off topic that it's not funny. No slamming, no name calling, just ask technical questions and wait for a technical answer.

Just food for thought.

A technical discussion of Amsoil's formulations and product line sounds great but it wouldn't take long before their unconventional marketing system comes up. That tends to blow up a thread and get nasty quick. Happens frequently on other automotive sites. As much as all of us appreciate the help and comments offered to us by our excellent Amsoil site sponsors we don't want BITOG to become a paid advertisment for Amsoil (or any other company.)

It's all the Amsoil internet propaganda sites as to why many dislike the product, despite it's great quality.

I hesitate even to engage this any further, as the thread is already off topic, but then I don't feel too bad about it, as I do happily use Amsoil products. There are some situations where I will not buy a product, whether I want it or not, simply because the advertising is more hortatory than informational. I find it distasteful and, ultimately, disrespectful to consumers. I'll shut up about this now.

People I know are put off by all the Amsoil web sites and some of the uninformed dealers. I just started this thread because I though that this idea would bridge the gap for a lot of people the are smart enough to chew gum and pick an engine oil at the same time. A friend used Amsoil until he ran into a dealer at the Del Mar Fair. That guy should have been selling Vegomatics. He did not reorder. I introduced him to BITOG and now he's using it again. He looked around Southern California and found a knowledgeable dealer. I know others that are put off by the marketing, not something new I know, but if an "Ask the Amsoil Man" section could be added I think it would be cost effective and anyone of the administrators could handle the necessary noise.

Man.......are you guys starting to scare me....you all are starting to sound a little anal.
Please don't get me wrong here, but just how technical do we have to be here. One can go to the used oil analysis section and it can show the most un informed just what is a good oil and how long most oils can be run, and in what vehicle.
Plus asking a few key questions gets answered in spades.
Am I missing sometheng else in what you guys want??

To all you Amsoil Dealers.....

If you go technical the average Joe will get glossy eyed and say whatever and get no sales. If you go all high the guys around here will chew you up and spit you out. If you have a website you must blend the two without getting to sound like a Slick50 commercial. It is always you can never hold a candle to us #@$%! that is annoying. So around here you can't win, get over it, but think about it and you may make your websites more insightful and appealing. I have seen many sites that make me puke and go back to the corporate site for fresh air. It has its RAH RAH stuff which it should and has right to but much more professional. Yell too loud and people will just go away.

The saviour is they have fantastic products and getting better while others may be settling for good enough. I became very recently as I have not recieved my package yet a preferred customer based on results of testing of the EaO filter and the comments of Terry Dyson on tsaid filter. I knew the oil was good and UOA proves it is still top notch but that filter pushed me over the edge. Ordered two. Will be converting my car to Amsoil.

Don, I think the problem is as much with consumers being swayed too easily as it is with general advertising practice. As for Amsoil in particular, of course anyone who wants to find good technical information, to become well educated about this, can do so. More should (it would be good for your business). You're not missing anything. I just get a little ticked at the constant barage of ads, ads for all kinds of things. It tempts me to go live in a hermitage and foreswear electricity and all communication, period.

With that said, back to Lonnie's original point, while we do of course get good information from used oil analysis and the technical experts already on the board, it would be interesting to hear 'insider' interpretations and explanations as to exactly why a given UOA might have x, y, and z characteristics. I guess the point is that while a certain amount of information might be enough to make a good, rational decision about oil, some of us want more than that to satisfy curiosity. No knowledgeable person doubts that Amsoil is great stuff, but there is still more to learn about it.

There's so many Amsoil questions asked on this forum I think there should be a dedicated subsection to Amsoil like there is for GC.

I have wondered why this is my self so many times it really is not funny.

They should have a dedicated sub forum but makes you wonder how many would miss out hearing the truth if they could avoid it.
