Well, I just purchased 7 quarts at a local shop of the AMSOIL XL-5w20 to try out in my 2007 F-150 SuperCrew 5.4 3v. Has anybody ever had any experience with this particular Synthetic Oil. Feel free to share your thoughts. It says it's good for 7500 miles or 6 Months! I will change it out at 5K intervals to stay in warranty. It has the API certification star, and meets FORD WS spec. I paid $51.28 for 7 quarts........

Excellent oil. One of the best I've seen honestly. Especially for the $$.

It's an excellent oil!
Even though, I used the 5w30 XL Amsoil, either weight is a winner!

Holy cow! $51 for 7 qts. No wonder Amsoil isnt sold in stores, it wouldnt stand a chance sitting on a shelf next to the competition. The Kirby vacuum of motor oils if you will.

Right! Now you can see why Amsoil is marketed the way it is. What you just pointed out is exactly what happened when Amsoil first hit the market in 1972. It sat on the shelf and collected dust next to the less expensive and better known big oil brands. Then Mr. Amatuzio was introduced to multi-level-marketing (MLM) through an acquaintance that convinced him to give it a try. The idea was that Amsoil needed a push by someone who could explain the benefits of using it and actually used it themselves. The friend to friend and neighbor to neighbor grass roots MLM strategy is probably what kept Amsoil from going under. The down side to MLM is Amsoil is known as the Amway of motor oil or Kirby of motor oil, which in some cases hurts the image. Unfortunately, some people won’t buy Amsoil just because of how it is marketed. But regardless of how people view the marketing strategy, many of those same people will agree that Amsoil is one of the top notch competitors when comparing what are referred to as the boutique motor oils; Mobil 1, Redline, Royal Purple, etc.

Thats nice however after shipping, Its all the same or more!......

Shipping would be about $7-8. So it's close, you are right. But if you count shipping you'll need to count the fuel driving to the store.

Just no support for a BITOG sponsor.

Many people have the ability to buy Amsoil at the PC price without paying shipping. Others do not and still buy the stuff. So what? Even at WalMart PP is $4 a qt. so we are talking a difference of $10-$15 per oil change, Pssstt. BFD

EVERYONE of you except Bill in Utah blows more than that on your pet items or habits and you don't get nagged...Or do you?

Pablo, is it common practice for local distributors to charge me a "freight" cost? Because they do. Still probably less than shipping costs.

I like the XL product, but it does get a bit hard to justify when PP is out there at less than 2/3 the cost when all things are considered and it's down the street.

And of course, there's no problem supporting BITOG sponsors assuming I/we stick with Amsoil (in this case).

I just bought 7 cases of Shaeffers 10-30 Series 7000 and got free shipping. Came to about $4.50 per quart.
Does Amsoil have a bulk purchase free shipping option Pablo? Or is there a list of the distribution warehouses that, if within reason, is close by mebbe we could pick it up and save shipping?

It's not just the cost, it's the cost and the inconvenience combined with the question of whether it's worth the trouble. So far, for myself it is. But PP is useable in all my cars, and having just one brand on the shelf suits me just fine.

I may be out on a limb here, but an Amsoil distributor in the grand caymans is probably not likely, lol.

We do have a distributor here in Orlando and he does charge "freight". It's probably computed on a per weight basis, but I'm not sure.

Last I purchased maybe 20qts of XL, 4 other quarts (gear oil+2cycle) along with various filters totalling 200 dollars. I think "freight" was less than 20 dollars of the total.

Yes there is a list. Interestingly there is a DC in Orlando, so why pay shipping/freight?

There really is no such thing as an Amsoil distributor.

An Amsoil dealer can give some discounts/rebates on shipping but cannot advertise this as a regular thing. Amsoil does give discounts on bulk buys.

I have been to this distributor on 3 different occasions. The last time I was there, the guy behind the counter was upset that I didn't phone in the order before I showed up.

the XL series is not an true synthetic the last time I checked!
A good oil but if you thought you were purchasing a true synthetic (like the 0W20) you were misled.
