BMW has won many races, so has Porsche, so has Ferrari. They make a name, they create a mystique, they get supporters for their products. I dunno if AmsOil has won many races, but the same strategy seems to apply ...

Yeah, that's another one

I'm done with them after loosing to many to sidewall failures from Ozone cracking in less than 10 years. I need truck and equipment tires to last longer. Toyo, Kenda and Bridgestone all go much longer time wise

Interesting.

10 year old tyres are widely regarded as being a liability, with about 8 years regarded as being the industry safe maximum for life span of tyres.
If I recall correctly I don't think the reputable tyre shops will even balance a tyre much older than about 6 years without asking some questions.

Here in OZ the normal run of the mill Michelin tyres are regarded as great value and they're at the top end of the price spectrum.
Bridgestone tyres are generally regarded as being appalling value with premature wear and some manufacturing defects which manifest themselves somewhat early in the life of the tyre.
Another well known brand of tyre are plagued with design flaws with deep cracks developing between the tread blocks well before they're worn out.
Toyo tyres are an unknown quantity to me personally so I really can't comment except to say that no one I know with a serious performance car is running them.

It must be a geographical thing with locally Australian made tyres generally being of inferior quality.

Depends on the application whether it is a cult thing or not. Kinda hard to argue that Michelin might be a cult tire, when I got 447,000 miles out of set of them on my semi truck, they still had 8-9/32 tread left, no uneven or irregular wear, and my tire dealer gave me $150 for each of the used ones. All documented and Allied Tire in Des Moines, IA can confirm. For some mystique, that is pretty good. Not too shabby for tires that have to move up to 80,000 lb of truck over a wide variety of roads and conditions.
