AMSOIL MTF or Redline MTL

I have a 2004 Dodge Neon SXT with a manual trans. I have wittled down the options to these two. I know they are both good products and they are priced similar. I would like a simple AMSOIL or Redline answer.

I do know that this car was originally spec'd for ATF+4 in the manual trans but I want to go back to a similar fluid to on that was used prior to 2002 (that was the same NV-T350 trans as what is used now). I currently have Pennzoil Synchromesh fluid in and I like the feel of it better than the AMSOIL ATF I had in it prior. But I want a synthetic fluid in the trans. They Synchromesh has been in for 3000 miles and it will remain in till my next oil change in 2000 miles.

Its a coin toss. Other options are the Specialtyformulations, BG, and Torco manual transmission fluids.

Sorry, no simple answer. You need to try them all. I find that transmissions can be fluid picky. Nothing like working on three like cars with identical transmissions and finding that each one shifts best with a different fluid.

Since you require an ATF, use the Amsoil MTF. Its a little thinner then the Redline MTL.

Undummy knows his stuff. I say it's such a "feel" thing - look at it as fine tuning. Many of the NV transmissions will have a better feel with just a tad higher vis, but not too thick.

Thats the stuff i was looking at.

Many neon guys use and like the Redline MTL. As far as I know the same trans from 95 to 05 was used with the exception of a few gear ratios.

I know that this is not the same car or transmission, but my nephew's 98 Escort with manual transaxle called for regular DIII or Mercon fluid and the factory ATF was quite used at 70k+ miles-shifting notchy. We drained and refilled with the Amsoil MTF since he lives in Pensacola FL, and he said it's shifting fine. I can recommend this fluid after seeing good results so far. We've used Redline MTL in the past as it used to be one of few options for a synthetic fluid, but this Amsoil seems to work well where a thinner fluid is recommended.

If the transmission was originally designed for ATF or Synchromesh fluid, you don't want to use any 80wt or 90wt gear lube with extreme pressure, sulfur/phosphorus additives...that includes a GL-4 only formulation.

I'd run the Amsoil 5w30, Synchromesh fluid....
