I just purchased an old amsoil bypass filter. It has nothing but amsoil on the round domed top. It is about the size of 2 rolls of tp , quite large. can anyone tell me if it is still supported by amsoil and maybe help id it.
the domed top is held on by a metal clamp with 2 sets of nut bolt combinations oppisite each other.
It is all aluminium.
any ideas?
thanks

I can't visualize what you've got there. Maybe one of the reps will chime in. Any chance of you getting an image hosted somewhere and posting it??

I WILL TRY TO FIND A PICTURE.
I called amsoil tech they said no more support but that they had heard that you can find the elements on the internet.

I take it that you have an empty can ..and need something to put inside it

Have you attempted to fit a roll of tp in it to see how it fits??

It is at least the size of 2 rolls of tp and I have not yet opened it up but yes i am looking for something , the right thing toi put in it.

So I took the canister apart at lunch and have more details. the filter inside is a cotton media steel center tube 8 in tall. media is 7.5 x 4.5 aproximately. The center tube is 1 7/16in
accross.the filter has a metal top and bottom that does not cover the whole top or bottom of the filter media
the canister has a center tube with a top screw on to hold the filter in place. the top and bottom of the canister are dome shaped
Ideas

I got some more info from an old amsoil dealer. he say the element was made by amsoil.
I also wrote to a filter company with size etc yesterday to see if they had some thing to match.
aAny one elsewith ideas?
Thanks
JOHN

Definitely old. Maybe the original design by the sound of it. Amsoil isn't THAT old of a company - some geezer who started as a dealer in the 1970's might still be alive.

Maybe take an film photo and scan it.

YES!! This should work for TP then. What you're describing is a rod with a threaded end that holds an endcap that hold the filter to the top piece. Given the 4.5" diameter ..this is what TP is. It's basically 4.5" square (round, really).

The only thing left unclear is how the oil exits the can. If it's as you describe, then the outlet must be on the outside shell. Otherwise there has to be some method for it to get into the center well area. Since the center tube on the filter is solid, that means that there's either a gap (or something) between the end of the media and the fastening screw on disk. Let me add this image to show you what I think you're describing.

I'm not going to edit the images ..so you're linked to them instead.

the end fastener disk the setup minus the element and the shell.

madsen, you've got to give a little more detail. Is the center tube perferated ..or hollow to the bottom. Does it serve to "squeeze" the filter in place? Does the fitler appear to flow from outside to inside?

do you see what I'm missing here

Center tube on the cartridge and the canister are both solid.
it seems to be a top to bottom flow
the canister has a tube that has a screw on holder device. you must 1st take the top off the can and then unscrew the holder to remove the filter.
the filter media top and bottom are covered only partially with a round piece of metal so that a portion of the media is open to the flow of the oil.
hope this makes it clearer.
