AMSOIL engine oil and ATF fluid, anyone can share

I have been wanting to try using Amsoil products for my Mazda 3 but have not been able to find a thread that really talks about its superiority over other brand names oil such as Mobil 1 (EP), Castrol, Royal Purple or Pennzoil. I know Amsoil cost more than these brands I just mentioned. However, I really would like to hear from people in the forums that have used Amsoil products and would like to share their experience. Is it worth the extra money to get Amsoil than Mobil 1 Extended Performance? Currently I use mobil 1 extended performance. All I can find on google are reviews coming from Amsoil website. I wanted to know if anyone here in the forums has actually tested the used oil in the labs and find out if the result is really that great.

Also where is the best way to get Amsoil products with the best price? Between Amsoil and Mobil 1 Extended Performance, which is more recommended? Please share your experience.

I am about to pull my trigger on Amsoil engine oil but not sure if I should use the 0W-20 or 5w30, any advice? Also what about their ATF fluid? Does it meet the specs of M-V for Mazda 3?

You can go to their website and enter your model car and it will tell you what Amsoil recommends for your car.

If you shell out $20 for a Preferred Customer status it usually pays for itself with the discount youll get. After that its usually a wash between the Amsoil+shipping and Mobil 1 Extended Performance+tax.

I purchase my Amsoil products from Amsoil.com with my preferred customer membership (I paid $10 for a six-month) and prefer using their fluids to any other manufacturer.

My own experience with Amsoil over the last three years has been spotty.I'm sure they are good lubricants but i have seen nothing that says to me that they are really any better than another brand that is easily available is at lower prices.


I suppose its how one would define "better",lots of folks using all kinds of brands and weights here have had long engine life without issue.
IMHO there are so many variables that it seems to me anyway that there is no single miracle oil,brand or weight that works "best" in all engines.

My Expedition was as loud as marbles in a tin can on SSO but silent on Rotella T Synthetic 5w40 or Valvoline 5w30.
My neighbours Mazda 3 seems to do very well on Motorcraft 5w-20 blend,87k with 5k oci and still spotless and quiet.

IMO you maybe just as well served using MC blend and save some $$.
My brother tried the long drain routine with SSO on a Honda 3.5 and had poor results,not sludge exactly but some varnish and build-up.
I would rather do a regular 5k oci than clean up a mess after trying to push an oil over extended periods.

Try and look past the hype and advertising.Its motor oil,if it's a reputable brand and the correct weight for your engine it should live a long and happy life.
A reasonable oci with a decent filter is more beneficial than what brand is in the pan.

I agree. While I think Amsoil is a fine oil, pushing oil to the limit is going to have some effect down the road. IMO 4 oil changes @ 5000 mile intervals, or even 2 10000 mile intervals with something like PP, Edge, or Valvoline is going to yield better results over the life of a vehicle than 20000 mile OCI 's with SSO. Even under the most perfect conditions the car with the 5000 or 10000 mile OCI's will be better off in the long run.

Been using the products since about 1990, believe the transmission fluid is superior to most others and love the 0W30 Signature Oil. is it worth the price, well, you really have to go with extended intervals to make it worthwhile in terms of price and of course less hassle in doing oil changes if that counts. I go about a year between oil changes. the price is a tough sell to someone just trying it and telling someone to go 7500 to 10,000 miles between changes is hard to convince people to move in that direction. If you have a warehouse nearby as well as the preferred customer or dealer route makes the price easier to swallow but will never be similar to Pennzoil or Mobil!. If you are going to change every 5000 miles go with another brand as the cost will exceed your benefit. I have used the ATF in camry, buick, Altima, Mercury, maxima, Isuzu with great results.

I've had excellent luck with Amsoil over many years. I wouldn't hesitate to run it.

This website is pretty good but slightly dated with an independent oil analysis at 1000 mile intervals between M1 and Amsoil.

I like Amsoil because they seem to be more consistent than other companies. They all change formulations, but you can almost always bet that Amsoil will perform well regardless.

I also like the fact I can become a PC for pretty cheap, and use their website as a one stop shop that gets me my delivery in 2 days.

If wear rates are the same changing at 5K, 10K or 20K miles, the oil has sufficient TBN/TAN, additives and soot handling left, where is the difference?

Amsoil ATF is so great that it made a Toyota Solara feel more powerful than with regular Toyota T-IV.

But Toyota T-IV is a fairly weak ATF.

It looks like Mobil 1 is better by reading the labs test result. Mobil 1 seems to have the TBN retain longer than Amsoil. Maybe I should just continue using Mobil 1 Extended Performance then. What do you think?

Use what makes you feel good inside. There is an oil out there for everyone.

Amsoil is a very good oil, but is really worth it when you push your intervals out, it would be a waste a 3/3k miles.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance is also a great oil but again, extended intervals.

I have heard about Amsoil since even before I started driving, their reputation is well earned and the cost of entry while high will pay for itself when you follow their recommendations on OCI's. You should perform used oil analysis every 5k miles to make sure everything is ok your first time, but thats the way it is with most any oil you plan on pushing out to 7500-10k miles. Don't go into it blindly.

Their ATF and Mobil's ATF are considered the holy grail of ATF fluids, either way you can do no wrong between the two.

Well, when I use those extended performance oil, I normally change it every 10k miles. I don't like to go as far as 15k miles. Plus I am using OEM filter so hopefully it can last 10k miles or perhaps to be on the safe side, replace the oil filter every 5k mile and just top it off.

If your engine is clean and doing well i don't think there is anything to be gained by switching,nothing wrong with Mobil 1 its a high quality product.
