Here is my filter ran on a 2004 HD Twin cam 88 for 3k miles roughly using Amsoil V-Twin 20w-50. Overall its built like a tank but it's obvious Champ labs ruffles strike again. Amsoil tech support has been emailed about it. Surprisingly it's wire backed media. Just did a cam chest upgrade kit. Good bit of material caught in the filter. I refuse to buy anymore Amsoil filters until stamping issues are resolved. Filter was purchased May 2025.

What's that brown looking debris on the media? Yeah, the leaf spring is pretty ruffled on this one. All these filter makers use to be able to stamp smooth leaf springs, so it can't be rocket science. Just sloppy QA these days, but there's no good excuse for it.

I recently purchased 2 Amsoil EA15K13 which now I'm really unsure about using, im already running one on my Civic, planning on a short run with it. I'm reasonably certain that these filters are made by Champion and thusly affected by the First Brands bankruptcy debacle. Amsoil seriously needs to address this face-on and upfront if they want to retain their leadership position in premium oils and filters. I'll continue to use their oil, but until this sorts itself out, I'll probably just go to the Mobil 1 Mobil 110A that's made in South Korea which seems to be of decent quality. Hopefully Amsoil will find a dependable supplier for a filter that checks all the boxes. Trust is generally hard earned.

Yes they are made by Champ Labs. I’ve had email interactions with Amsoil showing my concerns. I think they’re finally realizing there’s a problem.

I've had phone conversations with them a week ago, they did acknowledge a problem but were kinda dismissive about it. The only talked about the spring issue, indicated that if you shake the filter and it rattles, don't use it. Wasn't terribly reassuring. I hope they find a new supplier. Being a long-time Honda owner, I always liked the OEM Honda filters when they were made by Filtech.

The old style cam plays used spring loaded chain tensioners. They were a crappy rubber consumable item. Upgraded plate uses hard nylon hydraulic tensioners.

Thanks for notifying TS.

I want to say there has been talk about those 5 micron filters on here but don't remember. That is quite a filter claim of 5um @99%. Still looks like a quality filter. Thanks for the details. Ride while you can & put it away if it gets cold soon? I never could get out & ride unless it was at least 65F but I've seen some real troopers out here brisking in the cold well below that.

That thing has more Ruffles than the Lay's factory.

What did Amsoil TS say?
