Anyone recently try VR1 FS 20w-50 in the V-twin engines? My Twin cam 88 and pretty much all Harleys have separate sumps so I don't care about wet clutch compliant oils. I can't find a VOA of this oil. Really interested in Oxidation values. I spoke to Valvoline TS and they noted several HD owners running it with good results. It probably has less detergents but I don't think its as low as some claim. I'd be riding 3-5k miles max a year. Currently running Amsoil V-Twin 20w-50 and their dedicated Primary and Transmission fluid. Have a few winter projects on the bike and decided to order some of this and a PG filter just try something different. Upgraded cam chest kit with bigger cams and upgraded oil pump. Thunder max ECU installed with O2 sensors, Really woke the bike up. Mostly Interested in max protection and cleanliness. I'm a fan of Amsoil and will probably switch back later. Amsoil Premium protection 20w-50 looks very similar to V-twin. Just have a slight doubt a constrained Jaso oil can protect as good as dedicated 20w-50.

Amsoil is a fine oil and I Can’t speak for the Valvoline FS Vr1 full synthetic, but I’ve ran the Vr1 conventional 20w50 in 3 different Harley’s and have been very impressed with Vr1. I called Valvoline years ago and they assured me that the Vr1 had plenty of detergents to keep my TC motors clean and happy. It’s a very popular oil with the Harley folks. I do run Redline Shockproof Heavy in my transmission and Harley formula plus in the primary. I never have a problem finding neutral and the transmissions shift like butta. ;)

I’ve got an ‘89 EG and a 2018 Tri Glide. I’m a believer in running a V-Twin specific oil in a Harley. I’m running Castrol Power1 V-Twin in my EG and Mobil 1 V-Twin in my Tri Glide. I plan on buying the HPL V-Twin oil change kit this weekend during their small business sale and will be running that in my Tri Glide.

You can’t go wrong with Amsoil either. I really don’t think there is a need for a high zinc oil in a Harley since they have roller tappets. I think HTHS is more important.

Here’s a link to a VR-1 VOA.

My '01 Road King has been living on Mobil 1 15w50 since I dropped the factory MoCo oil out at is first change. But I'm not riding in southern heat either other wise it would have been 20-50w. Redline oil in the primary and heavy shockproof in the transmission. also.

Thanks for sharing those VOA's. I just happened to find VR1 FS for $8.46 qt on sale on Amazon while ordering a PG filter. I'll most likely return to Amsoil V-Twin next oil change. The oxidation difference between Amsoil vs Mobil 1 vs VR1 FS is very large. HPL's V-Twin oils look interesting but It doesn't seem like they sell the oils within the kit individually.

I emailed HPL last month and you CAN purchase that V-Twin oil individually. However to do so requires a few steps. Email them and tell them what you want and a custom order will be set up for you.

I called them again a few days ago and talked with someone and asked if HPL would please update the website and offer the option to simply purchase the quarts without the extra steps as I simply want to click purchase and checkout.

Looks to me like most all the other products offer that option of buying per quart but I don't want or need that kit and not excited about emailing and custom orders just to buy 4-5 quarts of oil. The lady took my phone number and said she would check into it. I have not heard back. I emailed again so perhaps I will hear after the Holiday?

I explained with the amount of buzz on the net about this oil I was sure she would sell lots if she updated the site to allow a quart to be purchased via the website without the steps for a custom order or requiring the kit to be purchased.

Perhaps if more folks ask them to update the site my request may get to the correct person?

I would love to try the HPL in my 23 Street Glide. I guess I just like EZ ? Perhaps i'm set in my ways but If I can't simply go to a website, point. click, add a coupon code and a credit card or Paypal and know its shipping the next day or so I'm not gonna do it.

Even IF I ordered the kit, ( for now I'm kinda happy with my Bel-Ray in the transmission and Primary ) but IF I tried the kit I would like the option to add 1 extra quart of oil. I truly hope HPL will make these quarts EZ to buy and I will, I would have already done so a month ago.
