49K total miles on F150. Oil in use 5 months, ALL city driving, added about 1 1/2 qts. during oci.
Changed to Eao oil filter. Fuel was an issue last report, not now.....I changed the pcv, fuel filter and air filter after seeing 11/06 report.

11/06 report, same oil, MC oil filter.

Would anyone go to 5w30 for the summer?

Hit me.

What's with the wildly different hot viscosities between the two reports. That was the same oil in the 2006 UOA, right? If so, that would seem most counter-intuitive. Very high fuel in that one, and your 20 wt Amsoil has transmogrified into a 30 wt; this time, almost no fuel, and you're well below 8 cSt? Lab error maybe, or something I just don't get (or am missing...).

Giving it some more thought, I wonder if there was a formulation change in the XL product. Look at the Ca, Zinc, and Moly -- they're all substantially different.

Yes, same oil - Amsoil 5W-20 XL.....different filter, MC 802s last year, Eao filter this time.

Not bad. The latest version of the XL series use the same additive chemistry as the ASL/ATM. (250ppm of boron and 60ppm of Moly). Approximates.

So the only difference between the ASL/ATM/ASM and the XL line is just the basestocks now?

Well, I wouldn't go that far only bc you don't always see everything via spectrographic analysis. I will say that they are VERY close and have never been as close in the past in terms of sharing the same additive chemistry. Thats just based on my observation of the UOA's I've seen here since Amsoil went SM. The irony here IMO, is that the API SM spec made Amsoil a better oil.
