I have been buying CDs, new and used, off Amazon for years, and the shipping has always been $2.99. I looked today and I see the CD shipping is now showing up as $3.99! So then I wondered if books went up as they were always $3.99, but books remained the same. Wonder why they increased the CD shipping price? It already was a bit high at $2.99.

One of the many reasons I went with a Prime membership. When I added up all the shipping over a year, it was well over the $79 cost of Prime. Add the video that comes with Prime, it's well worth doing...

That has little bearing on this conversation seeing as that is international shipping.

Are most if the CDs eligible for free shipping if you spend $25 or more?

We currently have a free trial membership if Prime and my wife wants to pay $79 to keep it, but I don't want to buy so much on Amazon to justify the free shipping aspect, especially because we normally go with the free $25+ shipping whenever available and don't buy anything online that we need two days later.

I don't know anything about Prime, but someone told me it does not apply to all purchases. Since I typically buy used or from buyers that are not listed for the Amazon $25 free shipping, that is not much help.

Also I like to go to my local record shop and browse the CD racks, particularly the used racks. I buy from them a fair amount, even though sometimes I can get it cheaper at Amazon, because I want to support the local retailer.

I've used Prime for a snowblower and a case of soup, and a Flat Screen recently. Well worth it if you buy a lot. Soon, the money grubbing bleeps will be whacking us with sales tax on internet sales of stuff which have no connection with the state you live in beyond it ending up there. Enjoy while you can, folks, money to buy votes with is always in short supply.

Just add another CD to your shopping cart.

The problem is you can get the CD you want for say $4 but the one that has the Amazon free shipping for orders of $25 and up, is going to cost you maybe $12, so it is cheaper to pay the shipping on the used CD than buy new, or sometimes that $4 CD is new!

Of course there is always downloading the files, but I don't like that option as I like to have the disk and CD booklet etc.

Only on qualified purchases, which usually ship through amazon.

I feel the same way, which some may say is a bit strange for a 29 year old.

Get on board with Spotify pay 5/10 bucks a month and have all your music on all your devices.

CD's has been dying bread. makes sense to charge more.

I tried the premium product and found the quality to be decent but no where near a CD. Also on a 3G iPhone the quality would either have to be less as it had issues queuing the music up. As the bandwidth was poor on Verizon and could not queue it well.

As much as I love the cloud, until the US has a decent cell network with 110% coverage CD's are wonderful for music in car and DVD based navigation in the dash is best. I like to make MP3 at a high sample rate for my vehicle using the used CD's I get as source.

+1 well worth it! Prime purchases are 2nd day shipping and free returns and the streaming video is an added perk.

I always liked the large size of record albums for imagery and the liner notes (so named presumably because they were written on the record sleeve or liner that went inside the cardboard cover). In that respect I do like the digipak and other cardboard CD cases and find the jewel cases to be cheap junk, but they do server the function--barely though, because of the poor quality of the plastic cases.

I also like nice images right on the disk like these for example: [/img]

Or check out this nice cardboard set (and the best Messiah I have found yet):

I usually rip the CD, burn copies for use and put wma files on an MP3 player. That way the original stays in good shape. In my truck I only have a CD player. I was runnning an MP3 player through a 100 watt amp in my last truck because it only had a cassette player.

OP, if you went to the PO and tried to ship a CD, how much would it cost? How about UPS and FEDEX, likely double or triple what the PO charges.

Shipping is getting ever more expensive unfortunately.

Best to just lump into a $25 buy and then get it shipped free.
