Amazon overtakes US Postal Service as largest parcel carrier

Yes, but it should not be taken advantage of by private business or else it'll become a major loss center and us the tax payers will have to foot the bill, in addition to what we are already paying.
It should be able to sustain itself and still provide courteous service. USPS is a failure in customer service and competence and there is no justification for that. FYI we already foot the bill for their incompetence. And yes, there is tax money that goes to them even though they do create some of their budget by sales. No private business that ran like USPS would still be in business.

This year a one ounce $3.50 package say for zone two is up over $2.00 and up another $1 for the more distant zones... Of course you can get up to 4 ounces at the same price but delivery is slower too

Eventually there will be no mail order on the little stuff.. 1 ounce to Europe is $20 to $22 via UPS or USPS for a $8 part...

Amazon deliverer issues all the time and getting it straightened out when you don’t get your product is a PITA.
Amazon delivery was so incompetent in our area they stopped it and went back to the trusty USPS, thank god!

On the postal service
Watching Nat'l Geographic Channel a while back and they were inspecting shipments coming into a port on the west coast. They had pulled aside several pallets for inspection and one they found buried deep inside some other goods were 1000's of coils of counterfiet US Postal Forever Stamps. Other things they found were phony designer products like Rolex watchs, handbags and other high designer products. Not only do people get screwed with phony products, the gov't does not see any tax revenue from these black market sales and US busness get screwed by China.

The have their own police force, they should be able to catch a lot of this stuff.

I received two FedEx packages yesterday. Note that was July 4.

The USPS has been begging for years to reduce delivery days.

Has anyone ever seen a small business struggle and in response cut hours of operation? This is particularly common with bakeries and restaurants but can also be B&M retail. Then people stop going because your hours are too limited or too erratic. In response the business cuts hours further. Now even fewer people go. It's just a self-consuming perpetual cycle of eating yourself until you're open zero hours, aka out of business.

If USPS cuts Saturday, next they'll beg to cut Wednesday, then Thursday, then Monday, then Friday, then Tuesday. Then the employees will cry we're so mean because we didn't want them to have jobs or pensions. Just shut up and work.
A couple of weeks ago no one in my neighborhood (~100 homes) received any mail on Monday or Tuesday. On Wednesday, they made two separate deliveries - one with Mon. & Tues. mail, and the other with Wednesday's mail. The guy across the street got in contact with the nearby branch and was told they were short-handed and didn't have enough carriers available. It's also not unusual for delivery to occur after sundown.

I'll take UPS, FedEx, or Amazon over USPS every single time.

I’m not sure what the significance is to the consumer on who has a bigger share of the delivery circuit except if you were a direct seller like Amazon.

Either way for the consumer competition rules!
Right now. you might be surprised that UPS and FedEx are not very interested in Home delivery

Amazon can do it cheaper because they don’t have to pay the wages and benefits that the US postal worker receives. Judging by some of these posts, it’s amazing how quickly we throw our American workers under the bus.
Dare I say hypocritical in some cases?

I ordered a new amplifier for my truck last week on ebay and for some reason it shipped from Amazon. My guess is it was listed on both platforms. It was strange seeing the Amazon box on the front porch with an ebay order.
