1) If it is a battery operated quartz wall clock movement, always change the battery on an annual basis. Do not wait for the clock to stop entirely. Set aside a fixed date, say every Christmas or New Year’s Day.

Alkaline batteries build pressure and start to leak when they're fully discharged.

There's also the quality of the seals. I've seen some alkaline batteries that leaked before they were ever installed in anything.

Who makes those? I had five duds out of my AA 100 pack. Maybe same as Costco?

Higher price, but no duds, but economically for sure take the $1.50 loss on duds!!

Honestly I never ever had a OOB dud Energizer. Duracells don't store well. Costco and Amazon too many duds for me.

Rechargeables never seem to be all that, spend more time in the recharger.

^This. I have a pack of AAA's from Walgreen's (branded as such) that claim they're good to store until 2029. One of the batteries is already leaking in the still-sealed pack. Ray-O-Vac's have a bad habit of leaking in the package and in the devices, which is a shame because they were my go-to after I got tired of Eveready and Duracell doing that. And Menards used to have really good deals on them too.

I'm thinking Rayovac changed a bunch after the acquisition by Energizer Holdings. Likely just a single battery design that's just relabelled for brand differentiation, like Energizer, Eveready, or Rayovac.

+1. I have had much better luck with these in regards to leakage.
For those close to the Menards, they are on sale this weekend, 30 for $3.97 after MIR.
I'll go in tomorrow PM after the crowds dwindle for my years supply.

We've been burning through AA and AAA's with all the Christmas cheer. These are so low priced, I could not resist again. I will tally and take pictures of the duds in the tester........well I actually hope N 0V=X and X= 0. I think they arrive today, but Amazon gets janky this time of year.
