Castrol 0W-40: $25. 1/2 PAO, 1/2 Group III, a dash of ester.
M1 FS 0W-40: $25. 2/3 GTL, 1/3 PAO, a dash of ester.
Amazon 5W-40: $25. 100% Group III+, no ester.
I am not saying that it's not a good oil -- it probably is -- but if we had a value-to-price index, Amazon 5W-40 would by far be the third place, certainly underperforming the other two despite costing the same. It also does not have any real approvals other than API.
Castrol 0W-40 likely has a tad bit better base oil (more PAO) than M1 FS 0W-40, which makes up for it with GTL. M1 should have a solid Infineum add pack though.
Where are you getting Castrol that cheap? Because I paid $29 for 6qts of Amazon.
ram_man, Ghokhan is quoting walmart black-jug 5 qts prices, everyday price. The best deal on REAL euro-spec approved oil, not oil that kinda sorta says it might meet requirements.
Why pay so much for Amazon euro 5w40 here when you can get Castrol or M1 0w40 that carries most (M1 is missing BMW) or all (Castrol has all approvals) for cheaper, name-brands too?
Sometimes walmarts carry Pennzoil euro-spec 0w40 too, another good one tested out the wazoo in real approvals.
And your choice of K&N oil filters is a bad one too. Sorry I'm so rough on you in particular, but people reading this have to understand Fram Ultra or Fram Racing OIl Filters, or Wix or NapaGold or Purolator Boss or Royal Purple oil filters or Amsoil oil filters or Mobil1 oil filters, are all much better choices than K&N which fell out of favor a decade ago due to cost-cutting by new owners riding on their past good brand name, no longer that great.
Since I'm criticizing ram_man a lot here, I should clearly state to readers that oil filters are judged by how well they filter & what they are constructed of, and all the ones I've listed do well, just not K&N.
Summary:
Buy name-brand oil that has real, actual spec approvals,
and oil filters that actually perform well. (Seems like common sense I guess.)
