Allison pulling branding rights for the GM 10L1000

I'm guessing Allison has one of two things in mind. Either GM quality has gone down enough that they don't want their name attached to the product or they are in negotiations for more licencing money similar to YouTube TV vs Disney/ESPN. Just a guess.

So GM cares?

They were just using "Allison" for advertising bragging, correct?

I must assume GM was not paying Allison a dime, correct?

GM drops the name usage, and loses how many customers?
Maybe both parties were doing the same …
Nobody on this sight will ever know - but it’s another opportunity to bash GM - regardless of the dozens of problems many makes are having …

As I understand it from people I know in the space, GM was paying Allison for licensing to use their name. The initial design was done by GM who then sent the design specs to Allison. Allison then made revisions and made them contingent on using their name. I believe this has been a tenuous relationship for a while and it was obvious from the start that this wasnt a true Allison which was easily seen by the lack of simplicity in maintaining the units. Allisons are typically designed with ease of maintenance. I do know that production was slowed in Flint in early fall due to lack of available transmissions due to the volume of repair part manufacturing. GM's propulsion team has been rightfully under scrutiny for some time now. Their warranty claims must be astronomical.

There are several reports of 2500s and 3500s with that transmission having their rear tires locking up at speed. Several software fixes have been released but the reports are still coming up occasionally.
The software "fix" is a reprogram that sends the transmission into limp mode if it detects multiple ratios applied at once - IE lockup occurring. That's not a fix.

Allison/GM should have continued development of the Allison 9 speed. If they can't get the 10L1000 fixed, the Ram ZF is going to have their share of the market.

ZF makes the best transmissions IMHO.

The 10L1000 is made by GM in the Toledo Transmission Operations plant. Allison gave input on the design, but it's not theirs.
According to a few articles for the 2500/3500 that's true but the 4500,5500,and 6500 use an actual Allison manufactured transmission.

The crazy thing is requiring dealers to remove Allison badging on trucks already in existence if sold in '26. WOW!! That's like a giant middle finger to GM right there. I wonder if dealers will really try or care?
