Allison 10L1000 Service Recommendations

We had a 2020 with a diesel in my hotshot fleet that towed a 40ft gooseneck behind it at all yimes. we put 190k miles on in 18 months with 50k miles fluid changes. Never am issue don't over think it.

Did you have to pull the XO pipe from exhaust ?
Yes on the gasser T1X trucks with the 10L80, you have to pull the y-pipe at the exhaust manifolds. Pull the O2 sensors, unbolt the Y at the manifolds and drop the whole pipe to get enough clearance to get the pan off around I believe the transmission pump it is.

It honestly is an annoying job. 2/3 exhaust manifold studs on the passenger side pulled with the nuts and the nuts wouldn't budge (truck was only 10 months at the time). Ended up replacing them as they're just typical GM manifold studs.

Ugh, might be time to let the dealer BG it - would be the first I didn’t do myself - but have a dealership warranty too 😵‍💫

Yeah I get that. It is a chore, but if you can swing a PPE pan on it, then I'd be pretty confident in letting the new filter, from the service, ride for a while and just do fluid drain+refills thru the large drain plug it has. Also the magnet on the drain plug is very large so it'd be fine not needing to drop the pan for a while.

To clear the auxiliary pump that the Gen 2 10L80 has for Stop/Start.

I looked up the PPE pan....appears they only make one for the Duramax. I figured they would be the same transmission and same pan for both motors.....

Purely for educating us outa touch folks, are all of these 10 speeds basically the same GM/Ford partnership units? I ask because I've seen the 10 speeds in the Mustang, Ranger, F150-F550, Camaro, and Silverado /Sierra 1500-3500. Is it all the same thing with minor tweaks like clutch pack size etc?

My father has 20224 F350 (6.8L) that I sort of talked him into. The local GM dealer helped by not even allowing him to test drive a truck. But I would feel a bit guilty if his transmission had problems. Ironically it is one of the features he loves about the truck. Says its always in the right gear.
