What's special about a Mazda filter?
The Fram catalog specs the usual Asian size 6607 filter for Mazda.
That would also mean that the larger sizes 3593A and 7317 might fit.

Not sure why Wix/Napa have a filter that is specifically made for Mazdas. But according to Mazda, the OE filters for the 2.5 Turbo and Non-Turbo engines are different and not interchangeable. Looks like Wix/Napa created one that is compatible with both OE.

Probably have the higher bypass valve setting like Mazda may specify on their OEM. That's really the only reason some of the aftermarket filter makers bumped up their bypass valve setting ... just to match the OEM bypass setting (even though it may not be necessary).

Agree. I don't know what else could be different among all these filters.

No drain back valve.... Although many aftermarket filters have them and will work fine...My car (2018 Toyota Yaris IA a Mazda II re-badge) uses that filter, currently using a Wix 57002 and I am very happy with it..

Ran M1 filters for nearly 2 years and OEM denso after that in my miata at the time. No difference at all. The Wix filter "made" for skyactiv is the mexico value oem part with a white can. With that said, the Thailand denso filters aren't bad. The only filter u must use is the 2.5 turbo OEM filter which bypass is different but the part number is as well. Not sure there is an aftermarket equivalent. The skyactiv NA motors all use the 6607 equivalent.

I agree. I think there isn't really a specific aftermarket filter for the Turbo engine although the Wix/Napa appears to be good for both, the turbo and non turbo engine, according to NAPA website.

Same with the Fram catalog. They do spec a different air filter but they don't list a 'special' oil filter for the Turbo engines.

The following is a brief summary of spec-compliant filter options and availability/pricing as of Feb 2022:
  • White Label of the esteemed Wix 57002: Oreilly Microgard MGD57002: $4.99
  • Mazda PE01-14-302A (Tokyo Roki - Made in Japan)
    • No longer easily obtained.
    • General internet sentiment is this is the ultimate in design and build quality, if you can obtain it.
  • Mazda PE01-14-302B (Tokyo Roki - Made in Mexico)
    • No longer easily obtained.
    • Unfounded internet sentiment is this is a lower quality product.
  • Mazda PE01-14-302A-MV (Mazda Value)
  • Mazda 1WPE-14-302 (Made in Thailand)
    • ~8.50 suggested price at Mazda dealerships. Your price may vary - The nicer you are, the higher likelihood they will give you a discount.
    • Cheaper online at various Mazda authorized parts distributors but typically with shipping costs.
In summary, if your vehicle is under warranty and you are risk averse, consider the Mazda 1WPE-14-302 (Made in Thailand).

Else, purchase the Microgard MGD57002 or any other white label of the Wix 57002 in the $5 range.

Thank you. Great information.

[*]Mazda PE01-14-302B (Tokyo Roki - Made in Mexico)

Not sure this is correct. The PE01-14-302B that was factory installed on my car (built early 2018) was made in Japan. Perhaps that's changed since then.

That has not changed. The Japan made filters are for the assembly lines and the Japan market. Everywhere else will get the Thailand made filter which is pretty equal in all respects.

The only OEM you find now at Mazda dealerships are the ones made in Mexico that have the letters MV at the end of the filter number or the ones made in Thailand with the numbers 1WPY-14-302 for the 2.5 Turbo and the 1WPE-14-302 for the non-turbo.
