I usually just use a skim coat of RTV
Sorry, I got it now. I would make a couple of studs and put the new gasket on using hylomar or high tack. both work great in this application.I am waiting for the new gasket to arrive. But this time hoping to make the job easier and pop some adhesive onto the surface of the waterpump so the metal gasket sticks to it.
It would work yeah, kind of an art to getting the RTV laying right on the water pump but I'm assuming you know how to do that.Is that an option ? I did consider this but could not find much info
Absolutely Gasgacinch. Not bad on metal gaskets, the best ever for cork or paper.
Ford FE manifolds suck, as well. An original cast iron manifold is near or over 100 lbs, no joke. They're super wide, half of the valve cover sealing surface is cast into the intake, with narrow heads. The push rods run through the intake. Makes them easy to ID the engine family at a glance, though. HahaSometimes I will use my own studs to help line up and install components. A wide headed Oldsmobile big block cast iron intake manifold weighs soooo much it's a life saver at installation.
I use Indian Head Gasket Shellac for this purpose. Mainly because it's available literally anywhere that sells automotive anything, even Walmart. Pretty cheap (used to be anyway).
Some silicone grease?Tried to install a waterpump and ended up bending the gasket so a replacement is on the way.
I need to be able to use some adhesive to stick the gasket to the waterpump.
I have " Permatex 22071 " Waterpump gasket maker
AND
"Hylomar Universal Blue " Gasket & Jointing Compound
Both are advertised as being safe for use on waterpumps. Which is the best to use as an adhesive to stick the gasket to the waterpump ( to make installation easier ) ?
this is the waterpump, and the type of gasket I am installing.
