Advice for making gasket sticky

I use permatex high tack gasket sealant for water pump gaskets on the pump and block side.

I would save indian head shellac for cork gaskets.

Assuming there are no specific instructions to the contrary; Very, very thin coat of Hylomar. Let it set up then install, torque, drive and carefully retorque to spec. This is my water pump and timing cover MO, but I mostly play with older things....

I've used Hylomar on a new thermostat housing, which not only helped keep the gasket in place, but also took care of a seepage.

It's designed to be non-hardening and non-setting, so it shouldn't be a chore to remove the next time either, like RTV.

Hylomar Blue is specifically designed for the application that you are discussing. That is my go-to sealant for retaining the gasket in alignment when replacing water pumps. Here is a partial list of applications from the Hylomar website.

This shouldn't be this hard....or IS it?

Can you not temporarily use a couple of the pump mounting bolts like this (minus the silicone)?

Sometimes I will use my own studs to help line up and install components. A wide headed Oldsmobile big block cast iron intake manifold weighs soooo much it's a life saver at installation.
Ford FE manifolds suck, as well. An original cast iron manifold is near or over 100 lbs, no joke. They're super wide, half of the valve cover sealing surface is cast into the intake, with narrow heads. The push rods run through the intake. Makes them easy to ID the engine family at a glance, though. Haha

A trick I learned from M539 Restorations was using zip ties to temporarily hold a gasket in place and snipping it off after partial installation. It might work in this application too?

Tried to install a waterpump and ended up bending the gasket so a replacement is on the way.

I need to be able to use some adhesive to stick the gasket to the waterpump.
I have " Permatex 22071 " Waterpump gasket maker
AND
"Hylomar Universal Blue " Gasket & Jointing Compound

Both are advertised as being safe for use on waterpumps. Which is the best to use as an adhesive to stick the gasket to the waterpump ( to make installation easier ) ?

this is the waterpump, and the type of gasket I am installing.
