Additive fallout put back in solution

If a supposedly elite oil like Pennzoil Platinum uses a "low solvency" base oil knowing Pennzoil Platinum has higher level of additives, well that would be just bad.

I doubt SOPUS would do that.

I bought a quantity of Quaker State Advanced Durability 10w30 a few years ago. $10/jug. I have noticed the longer they sit, the more additive fallout is present at the bottom of the jugs, regardless how hard they are shaken before pouring.
If you are using the whole jug for an oil change, pour 2/3 of the jug in the engine, then shake the jug vigorously. That allows the 1/3 left in the jug to bounce around better inside the jug to help break the settled sediments loose and back into solution.

On a side note, I've used Valvoline for years, and even the jugs that have sat 2-3 years in my stock pile have shown zero sediments in the bottom of the jugs ... I always check for that before using.

my Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5 quart jugs always have crap in the bottom even when only few months old..Pennzoil says that is fine.
Yes, and even if they've never been cold. Pennzoil's yellow containers make sediment easier to see than in dark ones---e.g., Quaker State.

I use a strong LED flashlight on the bottom of the jug while looking down inside the jug ... easy to see any sediments on the bottom, especially if 2/3 of the jug has been poured first. But can still see the bottom better with a full jug.

Thank for that suggestion but that exactly what I do. I have enough technical acumen and experience to understand max agitation is achieved with 1-2qts. left in the jug. I also warm the jugs as I mentioned above.

If the jugs are only 3 years old (as mentioned in post 5) then might not want to buy that oil again if the debris in the bottom is that stubborn to go back into solution. Like mentioned, I had a few jugs of Valvoline that sat at least that long and there's nothing in the bottom of the jugs. Or rig up some kind of clean mini brush to actually physically scrub the stuff in the bottom loose before shaking with only a few qts left in the jug if it's worth the bother.

Heated garage, I turn the jugs upside down and shake them and repeat every month or so. Pennzoil said it is normal settling and doesn’t affect the quality or performance of the oil. I change oil often in my vehicles and put on lots of miles.
I don’t see how that settling wouldn’t affect the performance of the oil, even to a small extent. If some of the add pack doesn’t make it to your engine, then you aren’t running the formula as intended, no?

For what it’s worth, I’ve experienced this too. A few years ago I was on a string of using Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage had that sentiment at the bottom too. Shaking did help but still. I’ve been running Mobil 1 for the past few changes right now and there’s no visible sediment like that.

I appreciate everyone's intended help, but I don't need any help or suggestions. I as said, I am passing on an observation, nothing more. I mean this respectfully to all, but I don't care if anyone likes what I did, or not, or tries it, or not. Its just FYI only. This was kind of like someone posting a C&P of an opened oil filter, or a pic of a valvetrain. Its there to take or leave. Nothing more. Thanks all.

^^^ Yeah, I don't really care either how people might handle something like this ... basically just giving some advice/tips to anyone who might want to use it.
