UCHumboldt: At about 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13 an officer in the University Police Department suffered minor injuries when his firearm was accidentally discharged. The officer was treated for injuries to his hand. There was no other injuries or damage related to this incident.

More training needed.

I hope they release more information. Incidents like these can always be used as a learning experience for others. I wonder what he was doing -- holstering his weapon? Drawing it? Cleaning it?

Obviously THAT would solve the probable ND not training or command discipline if a ND was indeed determined.

The officer Accidentally hurt his hand when he Negligently fired his weapon.

The average low life would stare stupidly at a semi auto with no round in the chamber and the safe on IF he managed to get away from the LEO.

A typical comment by a person that comments on something they know nothing about. And comments on something that doesn't affect them. One idiot officer accidentally fired his pistol, and you think it appropriate for all officers nationwide to turn in their semi-auto pistols for a 6 shooter? Yeah sure buddy.

Pistols don't "accidentally" go off. Sorry. In the firearms world an "accidental discharge" is when a firearm was not designed properly and goes off from being dropped or something like that.

Since most police departments carry either Glocks or Sigs(two of the most reliable firearms ever made), it is safe to say that the gun was discharged "negligently".

You do see occasional accidental discharges, but when that happens the model is usually recalled and the design modified.

Negligent discharge is much more common, and usually involves 'pulled trigger but wasn't expecting pistol to fire'. I blame Glock.

I put this whole "Accidental" vs. "Negligent" discharge nonsense, in the same category, as these Internet guys who think they're some kind of self appointed wordsmith's, who are constantly going after anyone who say's "Clip" instead of "Magazine". They all mean the same if you read and understand the context in which they are used.

Is the grammar 100% proper? No. But both mean the same thing in 99.99% of the context in which they are utilized. Give people a break for God's sake.

We as 2A supporters HAVE to be this way.

Remember the Plaxico Burress thing. Idiot was carrying his Glock without a holster in sweat pants. Probably thought his waist band was good enough. When he shot himslef, he told police that the gun just went off. [censored], guns don't just go off.

Guns in this country seem to bear the brunt of the blame when a crime is committed. How about blaming the individual. Is it the car's fault when a drunk driver kills someone?

Here is an article just FULL OF LIES.

An idiot with a gun is a disaster waiting to happen. They're in the same category as an idiot broad texting or putting on make up while driving a $85K Denali SUV. These people, along with their behavior will not change. How much has been made of drunk driving in the last 10 years? All the commercials. All the slogans. All the public service announcements. The result of all of it is drunk driving arrests are once again on the rise. Morons will continue to buy guns and shoot themselves and harm others.

Most likely more will shoot themselves than ever before, as more are buying and carrying weapons than ever before. Many without permits, or any training. There are people who shouldn't drive a car, fly a plane, or ride a motorcycle, or operate a boat. But they will. When they do there will be "accidents". The best you can hope for, is to always operate yours in a 100% defensive state of mind. That way when one of these clowns moves near you, you can move away from them. Distance is the best protection from morons.

In virtually every state, you don't need a "permit" to own a firearm. This is the kind of thinking that the antis want. You do need a permit in almost every state you need a permit to conceal carry a firearm. To conceal carry a firearm with no permit is a crime.

DUIs are on the rise, well we should have stricter automobile control. Correct? It's the vehicle's fault, if there weren't vehicles, then their would be no automobile accidents. Think of the children!!!!!

What kind of "thinking" are you talking about? You're missing my point altogether. I'm not for permits. I'm against idiots. The problem is you are going to have them regardless. We license drivers, pilots, and motorcycle operators with special drivers licenses depending on the size of bike they ride. None of it matters because they all kill themselves, and each other regardless. My attitude is shut up and deal with it, because it is NEVER going to stop. If laws and licensing worked, there wouldn't be a drunk driver in existence. Fat chance.

AD = Oh sorry
ND = Criminal liability

Semantics created by prosecutors and the legal definitions in most States.

Come up to Cleveland and see how many NDs are done by officers with Glocks and you'll run away every time you see a police car. But that won't happen in your nursing home gramps. The CPD has a documented history of ND from "striking people in the head with their service weapons and causing accidental discharges". because of this and shooting unarmed suspects 132 times with Glock semi autos we now have Federal DOJ oversight of the entire department. The Federal mandate specifically now prohibits the police from using their pistol as a club.

So yeah...a 6 shot revolver with one empty chamber is in order up here. Speaking of a subject you know NOTHING about.

The Justice Department found in a 21-month investigation that began in 2013 that Cleveland police routinely bash people on the head with their guns, sometimes accidentally firing them, according to a 58-page report released in December.
