I have a 1993 Acura Legend that I just purchased and would like some suggestions for an oil filter to use. The car has 297k miles and the previous owner has used mobil 1 5w30 oil but had no preference on oil filters. I will keep using the mobil 1 oil but want suggestions on an oil filter. I use mobil 1 oil filters for my other cars but they do not make one for this model car.

Wix 51378, NAPA Gold 1378, or Fram Extra Guard PH8212... Why? They blend in glass fibers into the cellulose media (instead of all-cellulose), like the more expensive Mobil1 oil filter, and they offer 95% efficiency at >20 microns particle size per ISO 4548-12, and superior result. Rockauto.com or walmart.

Avoid Purolator and Bosch (same maker) in my opinion, since there have been a rash of filter media tearing in those brands.

Unless there is something odd about this particular application it should be able to use the later Honda filter, which M1 does make a cross to.

This is a C27 engine correct?

Depending on the planned OCI, I would go with OEM Honda, Fram ToughGuard or Ultra.

Second Generation Legends (1991-1995 USDM) used the C32A engine.

Both the C27A and the C32A use the same oil filter.

The only odd balls are the 1986/87 C25A and C27A. These two model year engines use a cartridge filter.

Please use a quality oil filter. These cars last a l-o-n-g time if you treat them nice.

Please post some pics!

Overpriced bowling ball catcher.

If you go synthetic use the Fram Ultra.

Fram Ultra is 99%+ efficient at 20 microns
Napa Platinum is 50% efficient at 20 microns

Right you are...

OEM filter (15400 PL2 305) is a ROKI which is about the same price as an Ultra, if the car will use the later filter you can run an XG7317 Ultra, if not I'd personally just go with the OEM since there does not appear to be an Ultra or TG version of the 8212 .

There is no Fram TG in that application. Only Extra Guard PH8182 & its 95%

If sourcing a filter locally, I'd have to go with Wix or a NAPA Gold.

No Acura dealer in my little town.

Of course, there's always the interweb......

I had a 1990 Acura Legend for 14 years and 212K miles. If it was me, I'd order five Hastings LF462 filters for $5.79 each, no tax, free shipping (over $25) at www.zoro.com. Think of the gas and time you can save. Note: I'm a consumer with no Zoro company affiliation.

P.S. That Legend was probably my best car overall.

I own a 94 LS Coupe. I really love this car. As for oil filters, you are limited. I've used the 51378 and the Trasko with a magnetic filter base adapter. The Trasko filter dropped my ISO particle count by one place. I'm using Amsoil Signature 0w-30.

I would also recommend the Magnefine inline transmission filter if you have an automatic.

First, not doubting your statement here. But what appears to be a different message is being espoused as the linked post shows.

"It is well proven that filtering particles in the 10-20 micron range is what makes engine bearings last forever."

Seems contradictory, or is it the difference between real world results and lab results?

Forever is an awfully long time. 1,000,000 km is close enough. I never once had bearing issues on the taxis. I may have replaced camshafts since Chevy small blocks like to eat those, but I've never turned a crank on any of them or had to fuss with bearings.

The above tidbit you quoted is certainly true. But, I would suspect it matters much more with extremely extended OCIs, particularly in on road diesel trucks. That's where bypass filtration pays off.
