ACEA C5 oil instead of A1/B1 ok?

Hi all,

My girlfriend has a 2016 MG3 (for any Americans who won’t know what this car is, it’s got a 1.5 chain driven petrol VTI engine). Owners handbook states the oil spec as 5w20, A1/B1 specification.

However I can’t seem to get hold of A1/B1 spec, I ordered what I thought was A1/B1 from my local motor factors and I was given ACEA C5 (but uses the same part number as the A1/B1). Is this going to be ok?

A1/B1 has been obsolete for 8 years or so. C5 is identical in HTHS, and is also mid SAPS. What they gave you is correct.

Your fine. C5 is better, newer spec oil.
