I'm a salesman. They send us to a lot of "sales meetings" and hand up stuff to use when selling. I got one from Castrol that claims that in 10w30 dino GTX is the only leading motor oil to pass the ACEA A3 NOACK volatility tests. It showed where Pennzoil, Quaker State, Valvoline & Havoline failed....How does the ACEA tests stack up to the US SAE tests...GF4 + SM? I'm not up on Europe specs. So would this meeting GTX is better?? Thoughts please.

I looked also...but it is US spec GTX on the flyer.

I am not sure that is true. If it was true, why wouldn't the product sheet(s) reflect the fact it meets ACEA A3?

It meets the VOLATILITY parameters of A3, not the entire spec. Still, pretty good. Odd that they indicate a 10w30, not the 40 weight it would take to ACTUALLY meet A3.

Well, another rigged test to generate some marketing hype!

Pennzoil yellow bottle 10w30 has a Noack of 10.9, based on ASTM D-5800, and has probably the lowest Noack volatility rating of any 10w30 conventional oil in the PCMO marketplace!

Yes but an A3 rated oil requires a minimum 3.5 HTHS, which means a US market, 30 weight GF-4 rated oil, with a typical 3.0/3.1 HTHS is going to be under the ACEA A3 minimum.

Will someone tell me the significance of this ACEA A3 rating? I ask because on the Valvoline All Climate bottles in both 5w and 10w 30 it is also stated that it is ACEA A3. So it's not just Castrol GTX.

Ok guys...this is a challenge....find a dino 10w30 that can match or beat this Pennzoil Noack of 10.9

I can't find one that beat PZ on Noack...but that could be because not many put this on the product data sheets.

Probally they say A1. Lowering volitility is easy of you want to raise CC too...less thin basestock and PPD. Dino GTX 30 weight cannot meet A3 HT/HS.

No it says A3. Its probably like Auto-Union said...it doesn't meet the whole A3...just part of it.

A3 is an extended drain spec. There is no way conventional Valvoline meets A3. Period.

If i remember correctly, i think Valvoline AllClimate indicates it meets ACEA A1 spec. However i have no clue what ACEA A1 is;)
