seriously bent around here as my ole hound dawg took a turn for the worse and was euthanized today at my home by my Vet.

I don't know how I'll do without her, she was a great Coonhound that always met me at the fence and kept my yard free of pests. Probably one of my best friends ever in my life.

Buried her out back by a shed in one of her favorite spots. Cried a bit, said a prayer, I sure hope she is finally at peace. Her suffering was terrible and it seemed like the right thing to do...

Sorry for your lose. It's always a hard decision to make. We had to euthanize our dog a couple years ago and it hurts, man.

So sorry to hear of this. Many of us know the pain the loss of a loyal dog brings.
Expect a very deep grieving process, but you'll get through it. Hang in there.

I just hate losing a pet. The death of a couple of my dogs pained me more than the death of a few people I know(one was family, don't tell anyone).

"...The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous is his dog. A man's dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he may be near his master's side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer. He will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounters with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wings, and reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens...

Its hard to loose a pet, be it cat or dog. I do feel its our responsibility to be there at the end. I have cried every time. I happen to like large breed dogs and some do not live more than 8 years. A vet told me when the dog starts having more bad days than good days its time to make a decision.

When your ready a puppy will again provide unconditional love.

I feel for you Steve. We had to put our cat down two weeks ago because of cancer. He was a part of our family for 15 years and I still look for him every time I open the door. Like you, we buried him in his favorite spot under the bird feeder and had a ceremony. I talk to him every time I fill the feeder.

I know some dog lovers aren't into cats (I like them both), but losing a loved long time pet is traumatic. There will come a time when we give our love to another animal, but now is too soon. And we will never forget the special ones we've lost.

We know when we allow a pet to adopt us that most likely we will out live it, but that doesn't make having to put one down any easier. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.

You have my sympathy.

I lost my last dog to splenic hemangiosarcoma, and since that time I've taken up the informal study of canine cancer. I've learned a lot.

It's estimated 25% of dogs under 10 die of cancer, and 50% over ten.

Dang Steve, I am within an hour of taking my 13 year old German Shepard to the vet this afternoon to possibly have her put down as well. She can't get up today and has hardly eaten anything in 2 weeks. Hang in there bud.

Steve and Drew im very sorry for your loss and your possible loss. I have a family of dogs. 5 of them to be exact and one is close and thank God the other 4 are healthy they are all 12 years old. I am so sorry to hear this but im sure you did the right thing. We treat our animals better than humans in the end of life. Dogs are the best and they deserve the best!

Sorry guys,, not good times for either of you.

I'm hesitant getting another mutt, because I hate the end, but you can't let that overwhelm everything that happened before that.

Sorry for your loss Steve, may you have positive/fond memories in your heart forever and know that your Coonhound is waiting at the rainbow bridge for you buddy!!

You have my sympathy in this tough time. I've gone through something similar, when six years ago my wife and I had to put down the 13 year old mutt we adopted shortly after we got married. He was my kid's constant companion when they were small. We still miss him every day and when the family talks about him it is almost as if he's still with us.
