Had to put my chocolate lab of 13yrs down this morning. She has always been there for me and helped me get through some dark times in my early 20s. Her name was Pepsi, yes there's a heck of a good/funny story where that name came from. She never had any hip, eye or hearing problems. 2 months ago she starting moving slower and 2 weeks ago, starting limping and moving very slow and appetite started decreasing, and man did she love her food!. Vet couldn't find much wrong. Yesterday she wasn't there to greet me when I got home, I ended up having to rescue her from a creek. She wanted to cool down from the 86f day and wasn't strong enough to get herself out. She was cold and shivering, I'm going to guess she was there for quite a while. After I got her out I then noticed that limping leg now had a serious infection. I knew it was time and so did she. We went in this morning and her last memory was me scratching her favorite spot behind her ears. I've had to do a lot of hard things but this is never easy. She is now resting in peace under an apple tree. I know she is at peace but the tears come easy tonight while going through all the photos.

Loosing a good dog is like loosing your best friend. A gift for a short while. Get another dog! I miss all the dogs I have had as well as the kids horses over the years. It is really painful.

Sorry for your loss Volk. Though they are animals they become part of the family.

Im very sorry for your loss.. I have been there a few times and it is never easy.
I hope you get another best friend sooner or later they really are great to have in lots of ways.

Abycat... Sorry for your Loss Also..I am an animal lover and Love Animals more then most people.. Animals do so much to help and protect the ones they Love.
There are some people without a pet to love them and they may never know what they are missing..

I'm really sorry about your loss. That's gotta be one of the hardest things to do. Be thankful for all the good years. I'm already sad for that day to come for our 7 year old English lab.

Put my 14r old bull terrier down 2 months ago, amd lost my 11 yr old boxer a year ago. So tough, they truly were best friends and my best friends.

Sorru to hear

Hear you there...Had to put my 16 year old down last year....so tough...

Let those tears flow, and remember those good times. Takes a while to heal the heart....

Helps you find that new friend...

I am so sorry for your loss. You made a difficult decision to end the deterioration and suffering rather than to prolong. You made the ultimate fullfillment of companionship and kindness to your dog when it could not make decisions for itself. Reflect upon the joy of 13 years, grieve the loss of that, then give a deserving dog a chance in the memory of Pepsi.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I have an 11 year old Chocolate lab named Coco and they sure are great companions. She tore her ACL a few years back and I thought I was going to have to put her down, but over the next 6 months she was able to recover. I don't look forward to the day when I have to put her down, tears certainly will be shed. Again, so sorry for your loss.
