Had to put my chocolate lab of 13yrs down this morning. She has always been there for me and helped me get through some dark times in my early 20s. Her name was Pepsi, yes there's a heck of a good/funny story where that name came from. She never had any hip, eye or hearing problems. 2 months ago she starting moving slower and 2 weeks ago, starting limping and moving very slow and appetite started decreasing, and man did she love her food!. Vet couldn't find much wrong. Yesterday she wasn't there to greet me when I got home, I ended up having to rescue her from a creek. She wanted to cool down from the 86f day and wasn't strong enough to get herself out. She was cold and shivering, I'm going to guess she was there for quite a while. After I got her out I then noticed that limping leg now had a serious infection. I knew it was time and so did she. We went in this morning and her last memory was me scratching her favorite spot behind her ears. I've had to do a lot of hard things but this is never easy. She is now resting in peace under an apple tree. I know she is at peace but the tears come easy tonight while going through all the photos.
