Mobil 1 5w30 meets Honda HT-06 can be used on Accura RDX .It also meets GM 4718M can be used on GM Corvette.
Mobil 1 5w30 only meets ACEA A1/B1 so A3/B3 which has higher HTHS can be used on there cars.Has anyone disagree?

Disagree. A3/B3 isn't a better spec. than A1/B1, it's different. Some engines (from Europe) need the higher HTHS but not RDX or Corvette.

HTHS means something, but it does not mean an oil is better in all applications. In fact I'm not a HTHS nut - an oil can be 3.3 and beat the pants off a 3.6 in wear, longevity, real life shearing, volatility, etc Just because a HTHS is slightly lower it does not (contrary to popular belief) mean an oil will degrade, "not be thick enough", etc

SSHHHHhhhh! Don't let the "thickheads" on this board hear you! They'll be coming out of the woodwork now with all kinds of crazy talk.

It's just a test...if you don't mind it NOT passing HTST for your _W30 oil that's fine.

If a _W50 can't meet it, that's sad. I like the _w40 to meet it, not that hard for W40.

Mobil 1 5w30 Truck & SUV is an A5B5 oil also WM for $19.xx. The A3B4 oil is I think a more robust oil. It is formulated for use in direct Injection engines which have shown to be hard on oil. I wish I could locate an easy to find economical A3 oil in 5w30 wt. I keep hoping Walmart. So far it seems that only some high mileage oils meet the A3 spec. and with only 2500 miles on my CX7 DI engine I'm not ready for a HM oil.

No, A3 is not "more robust", unless that's newspeak for thicker. It's the same test sequence, just thicker.

I thought an A3 oil must have a higher temperature shear rating. I was unawear that a thicker oil was a requirement and could not find it in the ACEA spec. sheets.

Nobody answered your question. Instead your question was twisted into an "ACEA A3 against other specs" topic.

Yes, you usually may use an oil with a higher than required HTHS in an engine that is designed for running on oil with a lower HTHS. You may not gain any wear protection, but you will not do any harm. However, in case of engines with hydraulic valve timing such as BMW's VANOS, I would stick with the manufacturer's oil requirements.
