A Samsung Refrigerator 4th of July Miracle!

Our KitchenAid is now twenty years old but the compressor did fail during the factory warranty period. Several years later the fridge began to leak intermittently onto the kitchen floor, and I traced the leak to a water dispenser/ice maker solenoid which I replaced. It was okay for several more years until the ice maker assembly started to leak, so I shut off the ice maker, but kept the water dispenser active. This when we invested in a countertop ice maker.

A few months ago the fridge developed a leak again, and this when I turned off the water supply to the fridge for good. Brita pitchers and filters were on sale at Costco this week, so we went that instead.

If your fridge has a replaceable water filter be sure to change it once a year or so. If it starts to get blocked the ice maker will stop working. Simply change the filter and usually the ice maker starts working again.
That is good common sense, but unfortunately, that does not help with the Samsung problem. I've always changed the water filter every 6 months and it never had any effect on our ice maker.

We have never connected the ice maker. If we need ice, we can freeze a few cubes or get a bag at the store. Our LG is certainly 15 years old and doesn't seem to be failing.
