Me too, no idea what I could do with it either.

For the love of all things good - is this a walk down memory lane or a question to AEHAAS?

Having said that, I had almost forgotten about those spiked metal spouts you had to drive into the cans (though I started using them in the mid '70s to add oil to my mom's 69 Dodge Dart). But it's been so long ....

A year or two ago people here would have said that the reason was:

Outside the US they are more concerned about wear and tear in the engine.
Inside the US they are only concerned about 1 more MPH at the expense of engine wear.

This thought seems to be changing. 20 grade oils are not resulting in accelerated engine wear. I believe that all areas will soon be using 20 grade oils and 0W- as opposed to 5W- and 10W- oil start up grades.

Ford has tested the Expedition using 20 grade oil in 110 F Arizona summer weather towing full loads with no accelerated wear. Customers have confirmed the reliability of 20 grade oils. The theories of early engine failure have been proven wrong.

Quaker State did the same thing. Their 10w-40 had a gold print "Deluxe" (iirc) and the 10w-30 (although the spec'd weight for most new cars/trucks) was cheaper.

35 years ago I was a teenager suddenly needing to decide how to maintain my own vehicles. Those sparkly Quaker State Deluxe cans caught my eye and I used it in everything; sure was disappointed when it was no longer available. After becoming a BITOGer I wouldn't run it even if it were available now but it never gave me any problems.

I worked in a gas station in the '70's and topped off my oil with Amoco 40 weight non-detergent (cheapest they had), then I did some reading about oils and topped of with Amoco LDO ("the long distance oil").
