A kinder gentler drug cartel?

I think Mexico is in too deep. An article that I came across recently has shown how many resort towns were taken over by yhe cartels and how more or less were gutted because no business wanted to deal with it.

Indeed, there's a weird mutual extortion where the cartels and gangs won't mess with the resorts as long as the resorts pay them. But in order to get paid, the resorts need tourism so the majority of the violence excluded any big tourism spots.

Threats to tourism can unify a legislature to pass large policy changes. Consider what happened in Austraila. Don't mess with tourists.

Now today the Mexican Pres said he will start interfering in U.S. Elections. This would not have happened in the past. Cartels run that country.

I went to Cancun last year and nearly every person who worked there was from other parts of Mexico. When asked what brought them to Cancun they said there are jobs and it's relatively safe because of tourism. When pressed they all said the Mexican government will protect tourists before Mexicans. Driving along the main road buried in the jungle just off the road every resort has a giant wall with guard towers with men with machine guns. Pretty scary...

My stepfather told me that the VC would send an apology note whenever they accidentally mortared the Navy hospital when they were aiming for the Naval Air Station across the street (NAS DaNang).
