A few questions about Jeep Wranglers...

I got a 2000 Wrangler Sport. I love this Jeep, adult owned & not abused. Thank you for all of the input, I really appreciate it.

Wow! I can't believe I missed this thread. Glad you found a Jeep you like! I love all Jeeps, from my Willys to my YJ(vehicle in my sig) to my Jeep powered tube buggy.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned.... regardless of engine-- there is one gotcha--- rain+rwd+on-ramps. The 6 especially has so much torque that you can break even the bigger tires free in lower gears in the rain. The 6 can move out if you get on it, and a younger driver could find themselves in a tailspin quick if they aren't prepared for it.

I personally love the unlimiteds, with the slightly longer wheelbase.

The 4.0 is infamous for a long life. it doesn't care what oil you put in it. it lives down low, you will destroy it if you rev it like a honda. If it's generally stock, the d35s hold up well but there have been bad runs with them.

The 4x4 does require more maintenance, and they will beat you on long highway drives.

BUT--- they are fun. period. they are noisy even with the top up, so if you need something quiet to commute home with, forget it. But if you like open air and sunshine and how it looks when you walk up to it, and how it feels to actually feel like you are driving a steel car instead of a highly-tuned, rubber-damped, isolation chamber, you might never buy anything else.

And btw, having driven both, I see no problems with the later models that use the 3.8L v6. It's a great powerplant on its own.

+1! Had friend with a '94 Wrangler (not Rubicon just normal manual 2.5) and 4" lift kit (?) and 33's. Nice little SUV! Floored = 70MPH. And all was well!

Rocker guard.

How well does it cool with that winch blocking most of the grill? Did you get the 44 rear axle?

Cools fine. Yes, I did get the Dana 44.

YAY!!! Jeeps are unique vehicles - aren't for everyone

1. some try it but it just doesn't work out-- too noisy, too crude, not enough luxury.

2. try it, and never buys anything else.

I owned my WK (grand chero) when I suddenly found myself single after 14.5 years of a challenging marriage. I thought LONG AND HARD about a used wrangler unlimited. I wasn't worried about a house, or new clothes, stereo, TV (I didn't want any of it, moved out in one trip with a flatbed trailer hitched behind me with clothes, tools, 4 saxophones and my PA, everything else reminded me of her...). But a wrangler was tempting. The ONLY reason I didn't go with one (I know it will sound silly)...

I knew I'd want to start dating at some point. And at my age, most of the women I knew were particular about.... hair. Well, hair and air conditioning (It DOES stay hot here in AL). And there was no way I could own a wrangler and keep the top up, except during the short winters here. No. Way.

So I did what all the divorce books said, and made no major purchases during that time. Sometimes I still wish I had... but I've lifted and modded the WK so I'm staying with it.

I <3 my jeep.....

Here is another option.

The sticky or "no-drill" rocker guards are junk, unless you're only going for the look.

I have an early set of Poison Spyder Rocker Knockers that also tie my front cage into the frame. They're 3/16" steel.

BTW, Nice looking Jeep!

Its going to cool just fine, If I remember correctly the stock fan (being mechanical with a mechanical clutch) is rated for 10,000 CFM. I know a few people who run a pretty dense screen over their grill for protection http://www.quadratec.com/products/13130_02.htm and stay at the normal temp.

In my experience its pretty hard to over heat a TJ from blockage of the grill.

i drove home 35 mins after doing that at night with temps around 55-60 degrees. it never went above the normal 210 degrees. lol

BTW new jeep owner, dont do what I did. haha unless your ready to clean for weeks and still never get rid of all the mud.
