A couple panoramic pics from last weekend's trip:

And a few from a spring trip to Yosemite:

Photos are in chronological order from the trip.

Merced River going over Nevada Falls with Liberty Cap in the background.
Minutes later we were caught in the thunderstorm complete with lightning and hail! My lowepro AW case kept the camera dry, but I was soaked.

After the storm passed and almost done with our hike.

Almost to the car after 17+ miles.

Lunch with a view.
The trail to Upper Yosemite Fall is "very strenuous", climbing 1000' per mile for the last couple miles, but the view from up top is worth the effort.

The "trail" down to the Upper Yosemite Fall overlook. The upper fall is a 1430' drop over the edge and you get to stand within feet of it!

Take warning.

Thanks for looking.

Great scenery, of course! The High Sierra is among my favorite. If only the hiking weren't so strenuous -- yeah, I'm lazy.

Did you walk down to either lake?

PS: The white dude (possibly a mummy?) falling happily to his demise in the warning sign is a hoot.

Last week I read a Nevada Barr book, and her character Anna Pidgeon was in that park - the Merced River and Illilouette Creek.Reading about somewhere you've never been, you just have to make do with whatever your brain decides is suitable. So,good to have stumbled across your pictures....

In the first photo, I had climbed out from the lake on the right (Upper Monarch Lake). The thin air does make it strenuous - I was hiking in the Mineral King portion of Sequoia NP, starting the trail at about 7800' and summited at 12,343' and 11,971 on Sat and Sun.

The weather was great this past weekend. A short thundershower Fri evening, but the daytime highs were mid 60-70's and sunny, while down in the central valley it was 100* or so!

Since I'm normally near sea level, I usually need to acclimate for a few days before doing anything strenuous at high altitude. It's not like I'm wheezing, with a blinding headache, but a taking it slow for a few days helps.

Your are sitting on the "Ampitheater" ridge, right?

Skip an "a" in what I wrote.

Don't worry, I'll even drop an "r" for ya

You sir are correct. I wanted to climb Needham, but wasn't sure if I was headed the correct way and decided to play it safe and do Sawtooth as I knew the route and hadn't the time to take any more wrong turns.
I can usually acclimate in a day or so, but the Friday thunderstorm kept me from taking a warm-up hike after setting up camp at Atwell, so I was definitely feeling the altitude a little more on Saturday vs Sunday.
