Although the carpet looked clean, the amount of sand that came out was unbelievable.

Granted, it was never removed and power washed in 12 years. It's now a lighter shade to boot.

Headliner also brightened up, now onto the seats. If I can find a power seat motor, and interior door trim piece with the switch, I'm going to convert the passenger side whilst the seat is already out.

Good luck with the search for the parts! Let us know how it turns out.

Agreed, holy cow!!!

LOL!

When I was studying in Scotland, my part time job was detailing. It certainly didn't go this far either, but I wanted to do a thorough job, which ended up like this.

I am very impressed with the Canadian content in this car, which isn't surprising since it was built on Ontario. The seats, seatbelts and carpet have "Made in Canada" labels on them. They appear to have been supplied by Linear Corp.

Your GMQ was built right down the street from where I live in Talbotville, Ontario. My old man had a friend who worked there, long time Ford lifer. Said the product they put out there was far better than many other plants he'd been to. The Vic/GMQ is a well put together car no doubt about it. And the place it was made employed many people around me, some of which I know well.

Good gutting on the interior, btw... haha!

The Crown Vic forum I'm a member of had yearly meets every summer at the St. Thomas plant. Really wish I was able to make it, but I couldn't.

I've had 4 cars built at that very plant, and there's absolutely no doubt they built quality products. My interior doesn't squeak or rattle, and has no cracks. My only problem with the interior has been a discolored steering wheel and the trim peice housing the driver's side window/lock controls - it pops out of place when the door is shut, because there's only one clip holding it which breaks easily. Everything else is holding up great, and they're extremely reliable. Not bad at all for a car that just turned 12 last Tuesday, especially considering the climatic conditions it operates in.

The plant shutdown on September 15, 2011 and has been up for sale since.

Don't feel so bad. When I had my old beater LTD, for whatever reason, I was obsessive about the interior. I had weekly detailing sessions, and once a year, I removed the seats and shampooed everything. The exterior paint looked like chalk due to oxidation, but that interior was fabulous.

One summer in college I worked in a large scale detailing facility at an auto auction in Alabama. We actually had to do this to a few vehicles because they were so bad, usually with food and trash. The cars were mostly repos and lease returns at this auction, so you can imagine the condition of the cars. Carpet can hold a LOT of sand, fast food, ash, and candy. Because of all the trash on top these cars never saw a vacuum before the auction. One Kia Rio filled four 55 gallon trash cans.

Probably something like this.

I really should be getting Hazmat pay for some of these cars. I stopped taking pictures for awhile.

I did an install on a Boxster Spyder not too long ago. the red seatbelts were badly stained and somewhat sticky. I usually shake out the floormat after I finish, mainly to get the bits of wire insulation and zip-tie ends out, and I swear this mat weighed 8lbs (ironic if you know all the things eliminated to save weight in the Spyder). Sand and cigarette ash just kept falling out of it.

Yeah, one Galant in particular had slime just like that everywhere, and it was about two years old. There was rotting food all over the inside of the car and candy everywhere. Everything in the car was sticky. Luckily we had disposable floor mats, not just to put in finished cars, but to sit on in the nasty ones.

Had one guy pull a Magnum at work in for an oil change and as soon as he got out he grabbed a trash bin and vomited. It was that bad inside.
Then we are watching and its this family with two children maybe 3-4 at the time climbing into this thing. [censored]???

I'm obsessed, good or bad, about having a clean interior. Could never imagine driving a car like that, wow!
