Yeah, you mind as well get a Mercedes. Service A is typically in the $300 range, but that's basically an oil change and checking a bunch of stuff. If you just want the oil change, it's about $100. And they normally do 7.5-8.5 quarts of synthetic oil.

Wal-mart shop is just to bring people into the store, a loss leader. Most of their shops run at a loss or maybe break even. They actually pay pretty well for the qualifications needed. You can get the nice hourly wage no matter how many cars come through. No flat rate games. The WM shop i used to run back in the day actually made money, was one of the few in the company, they had executives come talk to us now and then to see what we were doing. It was the combination of a great sales guy, workers who actually cared, and a high enough traffic location.

You can record your own oil changes here and the dealer will see it when they run your VIN.

I don't know about the Prius but my 2019 Corolla Hatchback holds 2 sets of TPMS sensors in the ECU if you want to run them. I bought a 2nd set of OEM wheels off Ebay that included the sensors. I did have to program in the 2nd set but I have my own scan tool so that was a freebie

They finally fixed that, did they? They could have used that, like, a few years ago (neither of mine support that).

But knowing the OP he already can reprogram the computer for any set of sensors.

The problem is actually with the wheels-- the valve stem hole is drilled at a funny angle so the sensor was cocked slightly and it didn't seal right/ with confidence.

I had to get "Carista" to program the sensors-- techstream was locking up.

Toyota did me a solid and made the tire light the same color as the "passenger airbag active" light and in the same general area on the passenger's side of the dash. Unobtrusive.

The Mazda dealer nearest to me charges $89.85 for a oil change. That includes a tire rotation.

For around $30 and one hour of my time I can do it myself. I take pictures of the oil and filter and the receipts. I keep that all on my iPhone in the Notes app.

If that isn't proof enough then tough.

Yup. What he said.
And I bet he lets the oil drain more completely...

Are you sure 'bout that? Service writers at my dealer told me they could not see maintenance data I had entered that way, which makes that feature of the Toyota Owners site pretty nearly worthless.

I can understand not letting subsequent owners view service history entered by the first owner, because a dishonest owner might enter fictitious items to help sell a car. Not letting dealer service people have access to what you claim to have done is kinda stupid, I think. I can keep track of maintenance on my own spreadsheet more conveniently than I can cope with the cumbersome version on their site.

^ Yep, Recently while picking up my all weather floor covers they commented "Lets see if you're do for service" , " I see you did the first oil change yourself"

The owner entered data on the Toyota gets erased whenever someone enters a new owner. Anyone with the VIN can say they are the owner of a Toyota. When I was purchasing my Prius, I entered some user data from service paperwork, but had the original owner take the car back for agreed upon repairs. The data I entered was erased when I got the car back, because the dealer doing the repairs had changed the listed owner back to the original owner, since he was the customer that brought the car to them for work.

Knowing that, I was just a little hesitant to use the site when shopping for used Toyotas because I'd mess up any potential entries by the seller or previous owner. But not too hesitant, since they were trying to sell the car anyway, and most owners probably don't know about it.

In contrast to Toyota, Subaru and Honda require proof of ownership before you can use their owner sites to view service data. Just knowing the VIN won't get you.

Two free OCIs, so I'm hitting them up at 10k and 20k. Pretty much for the paperwork proof.

If you are worried about updating your cars maintenance history, you can do so at https://www.carfax.com/Service/

It will say something like DIY oil change and tire rotation completed by owner at 48,120 miles on Dec 25, 2019. I think, but not sure, that it updates to the actual Carfax vin for the car...

OK, thanks for that information. Unless that's a recent policy change, it conflicts with what the service writers here have told me. I don't see why it wouldn't help everybody for them to be able to see what I claim to have done, listed in proper chronological sequence with work performed by them.

Does the new Prius really take 6 quarts? Seems like a lot for a small engine. 6 quarts is V6 territory

Also don't Toyotas come with 2 year/20k free maintenance? I didn't pay a dime for the first 2 years I had both Toyota and Lexus

Local VW dealer offers a $25 off coupon to their $100 oil change. The catch up to 5 quarts do they weasel out because it takes more in the 2018 Tiguan.
