Frank really does need to work on his PR skills.

Perhaps so ...but I often hear/see complaints when he merely says "Please read and follow the instructions ..go to http://www.auto-rx.com. He's leading people to the fountain in a "quick" manner. People tend to feel that they need personal service ..and he tells them where to find out everything they need to know. If they go to the site (the forum), he has people there that are specifically there to manage any and all of those questions.

Car runs great. I have used ARX before on a high mileage Integra with fine results and decided to buy two bottles for the Corolla.

Fresh oil change with supertech oil. Added the ARX. I'm 800 miles in and now I have a very noticeable and consistent ticking noise that happens when I first start the car up in the morning and lasts for about 5-10 minutes of driving and then goes away. I do not notice it the rest of the day if I park it and then start it up. Checked the oil level and I'm at full.

Comments????

Thanks!
Last I knew the Corollas were mechanical cams. My wife's 06 had a mechanical cam that the dealer wanted $500 to adjust the valves. I know a Toy mechanic that told me that they had an engine with lifter noise when cold. They pulled the Fram filter that the owner put on, and replaced it with an oem, and the noise went away.

From a marketing perspective, I don't think Frank wants to state in the FAQ that his product can cause temporary additiona noises.

I am sure Frank would have already put it into the FAQ if he had that desire.

Perhaps Frank can put add a FAQ that sounds positive like this:
Question:
Will Auto-RX cure some types of engine noises like valve train ticking?

Answer:
YES! If there has not already been physical damage to those components, Auto-RX has been proven to reduce and eliminate various engine noises. This is due to cleaning of oil passageways and metal surfaces that previously did not receive adequate oil pressure. There have been some instances where the noise has temporarily increased but then completely eliminated due to the improved lubrication and cleaning action.

How about this?

When proper lubrication fails to occur, uneven hot spots are created underneath contamination deposits. The result? A dramatic decrease in your engine’s performance.

It’s inevitable: engine sludge and contamination build-up are working together this very second with the sole objective of killing your engine.

As you start to get oil on metal that has been starved for lubrication there will be noises.

By the Rinse Mode they are gone and wont come back.

May be the oil filter is already pretty full of sludge or deposits, possibly the filter is in the bypass mode or close to.
Try spinning on a new filter and see if the cold start tick goes away.

You know, there seems to be a lot of beating up on Frank going on here. I am a member of this forum, and a moderator on the Auto Rx forum. You can't believe the repetitive nature of the questions - what oil should I use, how long should I leave it in, will it do this, will it do that, etc. - most of theses questions ARE answered in the FAQ section of the Auto Rx web site. I can imagine that it would get pretty frustrating, pretty quickly, to have to deal with people who "don't have the time to read the instructions". Then come to this web site - what if I leave it in for 15,000 miles, should I skip the rinse phase, even though you recommend group III oil, I'm going to use group IV, etc. If you buy the product, take a moment to read the instructions - follow them and see what happens. I'm sure you will be pleased with the results. Frank is the inventor of a product, he has posted the application instructions (which are the result of much research), it doesn't seem like it should have to be his "function" to have to repeat information that is already in print. Sorry for the rant, but it would wear thin with me.

Personally I think it is nice that Frank has a presence here. Many times we have to guess at product info. because there is no one from the company here to answer our questions -those companies are too big. So it is nice that Frank is able to give personal attention on this forum but the downside for him is that a lot of attention is needed. Don't burn out Frank...

I'll be using Auto-RX in my low-mileage (7,000 miles) SX4. I let Frank know about the "advanced-user" maintenance schedule, I had devised. I was going to start by adding 6 ounces with my next OC, and 4 ounces every OC, thereafter. Frank informed me that my plan was over-kill, and to use only 3 ounces instead.
I really appreciate that Frank, the inventor/owner of Auto-Rx, would tell me to use less of his product than what I was planning...

When I did the Auto-Rx thing my car made a scraping sound during the 2nd clean phase and then went away during the rinse phase. It has not returned now that I am on the Maintenance Dose.

If he weren't getting repetitive questions, that would mean he wasn't getting new customers.

Be careful what you wish for

I use ARX, and I have done nothing but rave about it, both here and to my friends in person. It is an amazing product no doubt about it.

There is a very simple remedy to the situation now being discused.

Frank should compose a simple, brief and polite stock response to those who need to read the ARX FAQ, that also contains a link to the FAQ and a smile. You could then leave it at that.

May I suggest the following:

---------------------------

I am sincerely glad that you are interested in Auto-RX. It is always wise to learn, as much as you can, about any product before using it. I want you to be a happy customer, because you are the reason why I created ARX, and you are why my product contues to be sold.

The very best way I can help you, is to refer you to the ARX FAQ page, which that link will take you to directly. Your questions are answered there. If you have questions which are not answered by our FAQ, then please ask them at our Auto-RX forum by hitting on the link. We would love to have you as a member. So please, come on over, and get involved!

-----------------------------

No reasonable person is going to be offended by that. So all any of you have to do, is cut and paste the above, into any thread where it is called for. Then the problem is solved.

I remain a happy user of ARX, and I continue to believe that ARX could make a real difference in the world. It pains me to see the PR problems that the ARX Corporation continues to experience, and yet clearly such problems are caused, by mistakes made by, ARX Inc., itself.

I would LOVE to see these problems resolved, because I sincerely believe that ARX offers a very real and effective solution to problems which adversely affect our PLANET's environment, and so I certainly hope that ARX will become even more widely used than it is now.

I truly hope I see no more complaints, from Frank or anyone else at ARX Inc., regarding the common and necessary functions of conducting busines and maintaining good customer and public realations.

By the way. The Auto-Rx FAQ is in need of some correction, and indeed here is a perfect example, of what the ARX Coporation can do, to help itself. Please read this thread. Autorx site and high mileage oils

I really and truly, sincerely and even desperately, hope that ARX does well and continues to prosper. It is for this reason only that I say anything to you at all about this.

Exactly! It is just part of doing business, and Frank must either accept that or get out of the business. End of story. No more whining about this stuff. Please! Drop all the complaining about, and the adversarial attitude toward, your customers. Without them you are gone.

All I can say is that all the information to correctly use and benefit from ARX is all on the ARX site. The applications are simple IMO. And most questions one would have are neatly arranged in the FAQ.

As far as seal leaks go. I prefer to clean up the seals with ARX removing deposits that are either on the seal itself or on the rotating shaft, followed by a rinse or two of mineral oil(dino) to see if it will find the original memory and reseal itself before resorting to swelling agents in a HM oil. If that doesn't work have at it with the HM oil. But remember the HM oil will work better if the seal is clean to start with and swells evenly.

Mineral oil is recommended for rinsing in that it tends shrink down the seal back onto the rotating shaft, as opposed to using an oil that causes swelling and may keep the seal a bit limp.

That sounds very plausible Rick20. I sure hope one of the Tribologists weighs in on this though, because I really don't know if that is accurate.

"Mineral oil is recommended for rinsing in that it tends shrink down the seal back onto the rotating shaft, as opposed to using an oil that causes swelling and may keep the seal a bit limp."

Not trying to be nitpicky, but did you mean to say "back away from the rotating shaft," since a slight shrinking of the seal would increase the seal's dianmeter, relaxing it "away" from the shaft. (Swelling of a seal would decrease its diameter and make it "hug" the shaft a bit tighter). And here we're talking about shrinking or swelling in terms of tens of thousandths of an inch.

Sludge is the main culprit for seal degradation since the sludge polymers attack the seals.

Frank is correct, answering the same questions can become monotonous, which is why FAQ's were created.

Thanks for the link about your research and testing of seal materials as they relate to rotational seal leaks. I agree with you that the seepage is usually caused by contaminants getting lodged in and around the very fragile lip surface. And that A) the contaminants need to be dissolved or removed, and B) that mineral oil tends to help the seal tightening down on the rotating shaft.
