75W Transfercase Fluid with Torsen Differential (Toyota/Lexus)

Yep, definately an LV oil such as the following: I think #8 would be a good choice as well.

1. Castrol Syntrans FE 75W,
2. BMW (Pentosin) MTF-LT-3,
3. Honda MTII or MTF 2.
4. Ford FML-XT-11-QDC
5. Volvo Manual Transmission Fluid (6.4 cSt) [Recommended for: type M655-speed with 6-cyl. engine, M66, MTX75 and MMT6 and of the type M56, M58 and M59 from and including model year 1996. Meets Ford specification WSSM2C200-D2]
7. Redline MT-LV SAE Viscosity Grade 70W/75W Vis 6.5cst@100°C
8. HPL Manual Transmission Life 75W 6.3 cSt
I have option 8 in both the Tundra transfer case and the V70R manual transmission.

I had to unsubscribe from that channel after he insisted that transmission fluid should not be "clean", 'you need some debris in the transmission to help the clutches work properly' ... or something like that.

He's someone who likes to talk and have people listen even if he doesn't know what he's talking about. If you can't trust him some of the time, then ... ?

I've found many technicians who are like this, confidently declaring something they don't understand.
I recall him saying to do a simple drain and fill every 50k or so. And showing how to do it in these “sealed” transmissions. At least that’s better than many dealers who won’t even do a drain and fill imho. My lexus service advisor last week said multiple times servicing the transmission isn’t in the owner’s manual. I corrected him and said yes it is at 60k service under specified conditions/uses. They won’t do the tranny fluid but i bet will sell you a new one. I plan on keeping my gx for as long as possible.

I don’t know technically, but I thought his point also was flushing after a lot of miles can dislodge the clutch material and cause slipping. So, that’s why he recommended 50k drain and fills. I watch another Toyota tech named Faye and she recommends multiple drain and fill cycles at similar intervals. So, everyone has their own recommendations even these 2 Toyota techs. I plan on doing 6 quarts of WS in 2 d&fs for now.

Also CCN says don’t buy overpriced toyota products and fluids in some cases. And he did that while working at a dealer. Now he has his own shop apparently.

His videos are informative but still room to disagree and do your own thing. I try to avoid dealerships for routine maintenance because I enjoy diy, learning and saving thousands over the years. I have tried to find quality independent specialists, but they often charge similar prices and some of their service writers in my experience are no different pushing your prices up with extra services. YMMV.

Interesting. I've never seen the Car Care Nut recommend anything but OEM fluids all the way. I always felt he seemed a little brainwashed from working at the dealer.

But he may also just be trying to avoid liability when a YT consumer fills their transmission TOTALLY wrong and then wants to blame him because he said some alternate fluid was acceptable.

Not sure I can agree with the car care nut on transmission fluid.

I’ve done a complete cooler line exchange on the Tundra transmission, in accordance with the Toyota TSB, twice now.

Clean fluid is never a bad thing.
Want to come do my gx? Just kidding. I think 6 qt drain and fill is something I can do. Not sure about the complete flush. I did do a complete power steering fluid flush last week for 1st time. Didn’t go quite as easily as planned. But, got the job done and cleaned up some spillage underneath.

I’m sure he said not to worry about getting the oem expensive 75w transfer case fluid - even said to use any 75w90 gear oil. I used redline mt-lv in tc. Motul and valvoline in diffs x2 changes. Multiple motor oil brands and 0w20 to 5w30 etc.

As to motor oil he said use your trusted brand or the toyota (mobil) oil b/c it’s inexpensive. He does like oem oil filters and brake pads. But, even with the steering rack he says oem is very expensive - can’t replace inner tie rods w/o new rack, so maybe look aftermarket.

I think he is giving his honest and fair opinions. I look aftermarket but sometimes buy oem. Like Toyota atf/ps fluid and WS atf at $12.50 a qt or so.

I used Liqui Moly 75w in my GX's transfer case, $7.79 at FCP Euro: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/top-tec-mtf-5100-sae-75w-1-liter-liqui-moly-lm20352
Not sure why more people aren't just using this. It's listed on liqui moly's website with the toyota t-case fluid part number as meeting all requirements. Also comes in a 1L bottle so you only need 1 bottle instead of 2 quarts for the extra 50ML, and is already the cheapest option on the market from a reputable company.

Would be great to see an oil analysis on a fresh sample to see how the additive package stacks up to the toyota 75W fluid
