5w40 instead of 10w30/

Thanks for the replies. I was a little surprised at the filters costing almost double what the filters are for my wife's car, but it's only about once a year so I can't complain too much.

New to me Husqvarna rider with 19hp Kohler. Says 10w30 on the sticker, but I was wondering if Rotella t6 5w40 would be fine to use? Trying to narrow down the different types of oil I keep around, and I already use the 5w40 in the push mowers and side by side.
From all I've read, many people have been using Rotella T6 5W-40 in their Kohler engines for decades and swear by it.

Myself, for summer use, I would use what is recommended, 15w40 would be fine too.. You might notice a puff of smoke out the exhaust when the engine first starts using 5w-40.

Yes, but 15w40 RT6 might be a better choice where you live. It's what I run in my rider up here in Pennsylvania. A 15w40 oil is required to have a higher HTHS viscosity than a 5w-40. Higher HTHS is what you want in OPE running in warm temperatures.
