Yeah, that 0W oil is waay to thin at start up. You may have metal rubbing together or something. Probably an oil company/big 3 conspiracy to make cars wear out sooner. 0W20 just compounds the issue.

Talked to a guy today at WM and he said that Mobil was in the middle of some big lawsuit from Hurricane Ike. That was the reason he gave me for the extremely low stock of M1. He said they haven't been getting much amd won't be for awhile. So, I opted for the Castrol Syntec 5w-20 hoping it would be a good option. Anyone have any knowledge of this oil? I used it 10 years ago in my Jeep when it was only available in 15w-50. Seemed to work pretty well. I wasn't doing extended drains at the time, but, whatever.

Its true. Mobil 1 is the leading synthetic oil on the market.
And
Synpower is 4x better then the leading brand. Wait. Huh?

LOL

Serious note-
I will +1 on the Pennzoil Platnium. Great oil.

probably any SYN but SYNTEC- I've been using 4 qts GTX and 1 qt Syntec all 5-20 in the 05 Accord 4 cyl. 90K, Great UOAs, at 5K changes, but you can see crud in the valve cover, and the cams do not look smooth.
Switching to the PP next change I got on sale for 2.79 / qt

So no Syntec? I guess I will take it back...

I am glad to know this before I did the change. I won't ever use any Penn product again. Too much bad luck with it in the past. I hadn't thought about the Valvoline. I might even just go dino on the Valvoline and say screw it. All this looking for the right oil is getting to be a PITA! Mobil 1 is always my first choice, but can't find it anywhere in 5w-20. Oh well......

North Texas....Sanger. Been to WM in Gainesville, Denton and to a number of auto parts stores. Sounds crazy, but its true! No big deal...it's just for the wife's Honda Element anyways.

You should try to get over that.

I find it funny how people tell me I need to get over using an oil that ruined 2 of my enignes in the last 5 years, not to mention that when I did the change yesterday, it came out worse than the oil in my diesel truck that has 20k miles of use on it. The oil was BLACK. This being with 3k miles of use on a Honda that has 49k miles on it using strictly Mobil 1 since it was new. That's all I needed to see. When I took it the used oil to be recycled, me a 2 other mechanics watched it as it sludged out of the container and they both said they wouldn't use Pennzoil if it were all that was left. They would develope their own oil!!!! That's great if you have had great luck with Pennsh*t, but why do I need to get over anything when there are 20+ oils that are readiy available? Not sure I got your point. Maybe some of you need to get over the fact that Pennzoil ain't the best oil out there..there are many others that I have gotten good use out of (Castrol, Valvoline, Havoline, Kendall, Mobil) to name a few.

Anyhoo, went with Castrol dino 5w-20 until some Mobil 1 pops up on the shelves again.

yep, more power to you. You use what makes you happy. Thats all that counts. Thats why I use what I use.

But

Pennzoil Dino shows GREAT UOAs. Better than if not just as good than other dino brands.
And Pennzoil Platnium shows GREAT UOAs, most of the time BETTER than UOAs of other synthetic oils.

That said. Yes, use what makes you happy. That is impoetant.
But Pennzoil is a great oil. Hard Proof proves that time and time again.

I started with castrol 5W-20 and it my car made noise starting below -5C so i switched to mobil 1 5W-20. I like the way the car sounded and ran with the mobil 1. It still made noise starting after -30C and below.
Comparing just those 2 i would chose mobil 1...car liked it way more.

I still don't like how the mobil 1 makes the noise in extreme cold starts so i am trying PP 0W-20 this winter.

I would GLADLY use Mobil 1 if it were available. I haven't been able to find it. It is what the car had sinced it was new. It will go back to that after this run on the Castrol.
