5w20...It works

Question. Has anyone here tried using the 5w-20 oil (synthetic) in a 4.7 liter Dodge engine? I have a 2k3 Dodge and was wondering how this oil would work in my vehicle. I drive 100+ miles a day for my work and if I can get a little better gas mileage from my engine the savings would add up. The motor is specced out for 5w30 so I wonder what the results would be from the switch?

I own the same truck (minus towing package) and I am keenly interested in your forthcoming switch to 5w-20. I posted a thread on the Taco forum and it seems everyone there is scared to try the 20 weight. The V-6 in my Honda pilot(5w-20) is much quieter than the Taco, however this is not a very subjective comparison.

I will let you know. Amazingly demographicaly the Taco is admired by a younger crowd. It is a disheartening that a reluctance for change is found.

Okay I looked it up in the acronyms, MC is not there so I'm guessing that MC means Motorcraft oil. I was in Walmart tonight and noticed that 5W-20 Motorcraft Synthetic Blend is cheaper than reg. Havoline. It's like $2.07/quart. What's up with that, maybe they just haven't gone up yet. I'm considering running this in my '06 Scion xA.

You can also get it in the 5qt jug for just under $10, at least here I am.

Let me start with the admission/confession that I'm using 5W20 in my 06 Scion tC.

With that said, let's be realistic about the numbers in the dyno test. It looks like about a 2-3% increase over 20W50.

I doubt someone going from 5W30 to 5W20 is going to see that sort of change.

My guess is 1% or under change. But that's just a guess.

So if you sleep better with 5W30, then use it. If you believe 5W20 is ok, use it.

That way, we can get back to the GM/Ford/Toyota bites threads, LOL.
