I'm having the water pump and timing belt replaced on my girlsfriend 02 Accord 2.3L next week. They will be replacing the valve cover gasket also. I want to change the oil right after we get the car back from the shop. I have some Chevron Supreme 5w30 sitting in my garage. This oil has a 9.7 cST @ 100C. So it's on the thin side. I won't have any problems using this oil for a short OCI right?

Nope, no problem. Heck, the 0W20 I'm using now isn't much thinner.

And I totally understand your paranoia about dumping the oil and doing a short OCI after the valve cover is off--I do the exact same thing.

Other than a miniscule change in mpg, can't think of any reason not to use the 5w30. No worries. Afaik, lots of folks run 5w30 instead of 5w20 regularly in their Honda's.

Excellent choice - the Havoline/Chevron 5w30 is almost a very thick 20-weight to begin with, being only .5 CST thicker than an actual 20-weight!

Agreed!

Yes, the Honda will never notice. My buddy was putting 20w50 in his burning sweathog 1.8L Integra to Civic swapped motor.

Poor B18. Sounds like it wasn't very well taken care of, mine never burns more than 1/4 quart in 5k miles even at almost 180,000 miles.

Nope, it was beat to death all the time. Now he has a B20 Japan motor in it. "It has no letter after the 20 so that means it's from Japan." LMAO, he tells me that everytime I talk to him.

I have to admit though, I like to drive my car hard from time to time. It's a lot of fun! When I first got it at around 121,000 miles, it had absolutely no consumption at all. Since about last year though, it's gone up to 1/4 quart in 5,000 miles, probably from my spirited driving.
